Yahoo Announces End of Briefcase

Yahoo has announced that it is going to officially shut down its stodgy file hosting service Yahoo! Briefcase on March 30, 2009. The service debuted about a decade ago. Ordinary users were offered 30MB of free online storage space, whereas premium users had the option of purchasing additional space to fit their needs.

The company has advised Briefcase users to download their files before the service shuts down . As for premium users, their accounts will be inactivated on March 30, 2009. Any unused amount of their subscription will be returned to them.

The service has been in limbo for a long time. Its anonymity can be gauged from the fact that it is among the handful of Yahoo services without a dedicated page on Wikipedia.
