What is there to hate about windows 8?

I have been running it about 6 months now. It starts fast, doesn't crash, seems fast, Everything works, No driver issues. Nice search function.

And Metro screen? I hardly ever go there. But I set it up like a big pretty start menu for when I do need to launch some rarely used program.

So what is the number one gripe? It seems like one of M$'s less crappy products. Ain't no Windows ME for sure. BTW Bill , I still one my $100 back for that dog.

maxeeemum

I'm running Windows 8.1 Preview and it's basically more of the same. So if you didn't like Win8 you'll feel the same about 8.1.

avatar

lifeboat

I heard it wasn't "RTM’d", instead it was "WTF’d".

avatar

Volleynova

I love Windows 8, so moving up to 8.1 is a no brainer. I just hope there isn't worldwide driver incompatibilities making my phone ring off the hook, because the last thing I want to do is hunt for Windows 8.1 drivers for a thousand people at once.

RTM'd?

Returned To Microsoft?

Zing!

Analogkid

I bought a couple Win8 upgrades when they were $39 and have been waiting to install them. I figured they'd have to do a huge band-aid fix/reversal on many things before the majority are happy.

I'll install after Win8.1 comes out, especially for the DirectX 11.2 exclusivity they announced. RAM manufacturers will like the upgrade of "developers being allowed to use System RAM and VRAM for textures" with all the people throwing 32GB in their PC.

I don't care what iteration Windows 8 is in, I wouldn't touch it if they paid me!

avatar

hornfire3

@legionera and pastorbob,

simply put, Mikey hates EVERYTHING about Win8, just like PCWolf and Maxeemum.

avatar

maxeeemum

@hornfire3

And many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, more! So many that it's wiping out Microsoft's top brass! LOL!

Simply put, when you put out a product (Win8) this bad you lose your job!

avatar

davelray

Prove it. I know many people that don't have a problem with Windows 8. The only people I see complaining about it are a handful of people like you that have yet to give a legitimate reason why it's bad, maxeeemum. The best you've been able to do is tell me "GFY." Now that's a real intelligent discourse for you. I venture to say for every PC Wolf and every maxeeemum out there, there's 10,000, maybe 100,000 people that are just fine with Windows8. The difference? They don't feel the need to pop onto an internet forum to talk about it. While the handful that dislike it for whatever illogical or made up reason, make post after post about how much they hate it. This gives themselves the false impression that they are in the majority and thus they feel justified. And pointing out to them just how ridiculous and / or wrong they are, is like trying to hit a brick wall with your bare hand.

avatar

pastorbob

True that davelray.

avatar

maxeeemum

Reverend! Stand down!

avatar

iheartpcs

Only a handful of people?

Try 95% of PC users on the planet.

avatar

legionera

Where did you come up with that data?

avatar

iheartpcs

Windows 8 is on 5% of PCs. When you subtract 5% from 100% you get 95%.

95% of PC users don't want/need Win 8.

avatar

davelray

Ahh but not wanting something, or not needing something, has nothing to do with whether you like something or not. You get an A+ for math but you get an F for the overall effort as your point remains invalid.

avatar

maxeeemum

LOL! I don't have to prove anything to anyone especially you. It's pretty well established that Win8 is a failure! Just Google "Window 8 flop" or "Window 8 failure" or "Window 8 hate". So put the crack pipe down!
And breaking news "Ballmer just got canned!"

Try this and read the comments! There's hundreds more!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pouEAMNfUcY

avatar

davelray

Again, vocal minority shouting as loud as they can. And Ballmer wasn't canned. Had Ballmer been fired by the board it would be a matter of public record on file with the SEC. And you are seriously linking a youtube video as your evidence of anything? I can post a video to youtube of the Loch Ness monster or a Bigfoot and say it's real but it doesn't mean it really is. So, again, you have failed miserably to make any credible point whatsoever. I'm tired of wasting my time on your ignorance.

avatar

davelray

Just keep telling yourself that. Of course, it will not make it true. Windows 8 already has 5% share and rising. So it's hardly a failure. Again, the internet has a handful of people like you screaming as loudly as you can.

avatar

iheartpcs

Do you just ignore all the bad news article about windows 8?

avatar

maxeeemum

@iheartpcs

Don't bother it's desperate davelray (a know it all who doesn't live in reality) and his Windows 8 is great drivel. He keeps repeating the standard M$ line and talking down to those who don't agree. There seems to be a push from their employees and shill to sell 8.1. You know it's like beating your bare fist against a brick wall. They think everybody is going to forget what a POS OS Win8 is. Typical M$ arrogance but he's fun to play with.

Let's see, no facts to back himself up yet again. In fact it's a perfect example of what I've been talking about when it comes to the Windows 8 Hate team. No facts to back themselves up and when someone disagrees with them, points out actual fact that supports their own opinion, instead of getting an intelligent discourse they get the above drivel lacking in anything remotely intelligent and reduce themselves to school yard name calling. I haven't repeated any Microsoft line but have stated my opinion based on my own experience. All maxeeemum has done is to whine. Hey maxeeemum, if you hate it so much why do you bother running it at all? You haven't even been able to answer that question. Also, before you start calling someone else arrogant, might want to check your own arrogance at the door. But have a good day, I'm done with you.

avatar

maxeeemum

LOL! No facts! LOL! Did you Google anything I mentioned.

You won't accept anything as fact!

avatar

davelray

Again it's like hitting a brick wall with a bare fist. No I don't ignore it, I disagree with it. It's not that I think Windows 8 is the best thing since sliced bread. But the "big" issues that most complain about are really non-issues. Don't like the Start page? Plenty of ways to circumvent it. As for myself, I don't have a problem with it. Miss your little start menu program tree? Again there are solutions. I never used it in the first place. Like the majority of people out there, I just put a shortcut on my desktop. Unlike Windows ME when it first came out, or XP, or Vista, Windows 8, upon release, worked great. Installed drivers for every bit of my hardware including my Brother printer that was quirky under XP, Vista and 7. All my software, and some extra software, installed without issue. And bonus, it boots faster and my applications run faster. It's not the greatest operating system in the world, but it works, and works fairly well. I've yet to have a single problem or blue screen. My main point is this, why all the hate? If you don't like it, don't buy it. There's plenty of copies of Win 7 out there. Why waste your time complaining about things that work fine but you just don't like? I can't stand the way the new Toyota Celica looks but you don't see me on the car forums blasting it left and right. Every single article that comes up about Microsoft lately has been nothing more than a Microsoft bash fest. For what reason? You hate it so you've taken it upon yourself to try and make everyone else feel the way you do. And those of that don't feel the way you do get told "GFY" or "you're a moron," "You're a retard," or "You're just a MS shill." Frankly I'm tired of that attitude. Find me one legitimate problem, something that is truly broken, and I'll be happy to have a discourse with you. But if you reduce yourself to second grade school yard antics and name calling, then all you have shown is your own ignorance and thus your opinion is negated. As for myself, I look forward to the improvements coming in Windows 8.1. And I look forward to seeing what's on the plate for 9 and beyond.

avatar

legionera

Dude, they satisfy their knowledge with primary sources based on other people's opinion. Did you see that he mentions YouTube and to Google negativity about MS? So, basically they convince themselves with non-existent data and hearsay. Apparently those two fellas have no experience with Windows 8 at all, nor statistics.

They got nothing but just empty words.

avatar

legionera

Why? What do you hate about W8?

avatar

pastorbob

So does that mean you don't like WIndows 8 Mikey?

:-)

avatar

Aksparks04

MSFT should just cut its losses with Win8 and try to redeem itself by adopting the approach of other companies like Apple and release "Windows 7 Classic" instead - an updated, tweaked and optimized version of Win7.

STILL not on Technet. I am getting disappointed I renewed just before they announced its retirement next year. Not much going into the site lately.

avatar

Rift2

I might not upgrade if it's not bug free since you can't donwngrade and I'll live without DX 11.2

- Give us the start button back!
- You got it! We're listening to you, we know what you want, so here it is.
- Yay!...wait, what the fk is this?!

It always takes a major update (service pack) or two before a new Microsoft OS is ready (imo). Hopefully 8.1 will be that update.

avatar

Volleynova

Normally I'd agree, Megan, but that only applies to a few Microsoft Operating Systems like Windows NT Service Pack 1-6, Windows 98 Second Edition and Windows Vista Service Pack 1, even the often attacked Millennium Edition ran perfectly fine for me for a year till I upgraded to XP.

Windows 7 was the most solid release out of the box.

I expect Windows 9 to follow suit.

avatar

John Pombrio

Since almost all users treat Win8 like Win7 and avoid opening any apps:
http://www.informationweek.com/software/windows8/windows-8-consumers-not-warming-to-inter/240155371

Win8.1 is not going to make a wit of difference to the desktop users except being able to boot directly into the desktop (which I already do with Start8). The Start button will be useless. That is all the major changes for DESKTOP users that I know of so 8.1 will be a worthless upgrade for me.

avatar

screff

I'm hoping it helps make it a better operating system but from everything I've seen (or not seen them fix) it doesn't sound like this will turn Windows 8 around. It feels a lot like Windows Vista did in that no matter how hard they try to make it look better, nobody is going to want buy their polished turd.

avatar

TheMissingPiece

Gah! That date can't come soon enough! It's really weird how big the gap is between releases.
