Win a PowerColor Devil 13 HD 7990 GPU!

7990

The entry period for this giveaway is now closed

If there’s one thing readers of Maximum PC can appreciate, it’s a ludicrously sized GPU like the PowerColor Devil 13 HD 7990. This unholy video card combines the power of two Radeon HD 7970 GPUs along with 6GB of RAM into a massive, power-sucking, case-hogging, and benchmark flogging bad mamma-jamma. Notable features include one-touch overclocking, a triple-fan cooling solution that takes up three PCI-E slots, and a custom assortment of tools from legendary tool-maker Wiha, and a support stand to hold the muscle-bound video card in its PCI slot. Yes, it's that big.

All in all, it’s the fastest, most powerful, and most over-the-top AMD-based GPU package money can buy, and now that we’re done testing the card we are going to give it away to one lucky Facebook fan. That is correct. You—yes, you—could win the PowerColor Devil 13 HD 7990 video card that we tested and reviewed in our February Issue, and have it inside your case in the very near future, provided your case can hold this 12” long monstrosity and you have a CrossFire-capable power supply with at least three eight-pin PCI-E connectors. We have the card all boxed up and ready to ship, and are even leaving the used Wiha tools inside the box too, despite Gordon’s insistence that we just say they got “lost” somehow. This bad boy is ready to ship, so get to entering, GPU aficionados. If you’d like to own the used PowerColor HD 7990 video card, all you have to do is…

How to Enter:

“Like” or already be a fan of Maximum PC on Facebook, and write an email to contests@maximumpc.com with the subject “PowerColor Devil 13 HD 7990” and in the body put your complete name, address, city, state, zip code, birthdate, and phone number. One prize winner will be randomly selected on February 8, 2013. This giveaway has rules, so please read them below. Also, this giveaway is regrettably only available to readers in the USA. The giveaway includes the PowerColor 7990 Devil 13 video card, wiha screwdriver set, video card stand, and the PowerColor Devil 13 box.

This sweepstakes has rules — read them in the next page please.

'Canada has an additional requirement. That the person can not be chosen on luck alone. This is where the skill testing question comes in.'

Bzzzz. I'm sorry, but your answer is incorrect!

There are A LOT of contests here in Canada that DO NOT require you to answer a skill-testing question; how do I know this, because I've been entering contests for almost 3 decades!

There are exceptions, yes, but that is the general rule. You also mention that it is province specific, which may be true as well, I didn't read that far. If that is the case however Maximum PC wouldn't just include some provinces, so they would have to follow this rule if even one province requires it.

That being said Quebec has a whole slew of even more weird and complicated laws surrounding this. So much so that if you look at a large majority of these contests you have been entering for decades you'll see they almost always exclude Quebec.

So rather then deal with the Maximum PC for this contest has excluded Canada, and I can't say I blame them.

eeew, facebook. I wouldn't use Facebook if it was a guaranteed prize (well, ok maybe I'd reactivate my FB account for that, and deactivate it right away after delivery)

I need a space heater, the last one broke, and I'm shivering in my North Face right now, my SLi 480s won't do.

Throw some prime95 at your CPU for more ghetto heat.

It would be nice if you didn't use facebook. Maybe use Google+ or even LinkedIn. I refuse to use facebook because of the numerous and continuous privacy issues and lack of control, so every time one of these contests come up I'm left in the cold.

Penterax

Uh, Google+ is worse than Facebook

avatar

zorak

Only because there aren't enough people using it yet. FB is only superior in user count.

Get over it and stop posting stupid things on Facebook

I'm mad, I'm angry, I'm pissed off.
Yet another contest that excludes Canadians.
Great, Fantastic, Maybe now I should start excluding MaxPC from my reading list.

We are sorry we can't include Canada - it's not because of a personal vendetta, it's because we have chosen to make this a "giveaway" or "sweepstakes" instead of a contest, which is what is required in Canada. We'll certainly take Canada into account in future giveaways/contests, of which there will be plenty!

Some contests -- aka: sweepstakes; they're the same thing -- require the winner to answer a skill-testing question, other's don't.

By MPC's rules, they've just made the contest LEGAL in Canada:

"NO PURCHASE OR PAYMENT OF ANY KIND IS NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN."

Can Americans participate in Canadian contests?!

avatar

Modred189

Don't blame MPC, blame Canada's ridiculous laws re: sweepstakes and contests.

Contests are better anyway. Then you actually have to put some effort into it instead of sitting on your american couch eating cheese puffs while waiting to see if you won.

Do I really have to join Facebook?

avatar

luusyphre

Just make an account and don't post anything on it. Think of it as making a fake email address. Make sure to make everything only visible to you so your friends and enemies can't find you.

Oh look, another useless company being secular!

This contest can easily be run here in Canada, because we have no purchase necessary rules!

I really think companies like pissing off their Canadian -- and international -- user base; here's one of the reasons no one likes america!

avatar

vrmlbasic

"Oh look, another useless company being secular!"

Care to elaborate on this? What is the "useless company" of which you speak and how are they "being secular"?

I'm thinking that this is time for the internet quasi-meme of "I don't think 'secular' means what you think it means".

avatar

mtrent04

Stop whining about a computer sweepstakes being unfair to Canada (who cares) and go back to being USA's hat.

avatar

Modred189

You should look more into Canada's laws re sweepstakes and contests. It's pretty silly stuff.

avatar

Cy-Kill

I know our laws regarding sweepstakes, but it's on a per province basis.

Some contests require the winner to answer a skill-testing question, other's don't.
