Win a PowerColor Devil 13 HD 7990 GPU!

7990

The entry period for this giveaway is now closed

If there’s one thing readers of Maximum PC can appreciate, it’s a ludicrously sized GPU like the PowerColor Devil 13 HD 7990. This unholy video card combines the power of two Radeon HD 7970 GPUs along with 6GB of RAM into a massive, power-sucking, case-hogging, and benchmark flogging bad mamma-jamma. Notable features include one-touch overclocking, a triple-fan cooling solution that takes up three PCI-E slots, and a custom assortment of tools from legendary tool-maker Wiha, and a support stand to hold the muscle-bound video card in its PCI slot. Yes, it's that big.

All in all, it’s the fastest, most powerful, and most over-the-top AMD-based GPU package money can buy, and now that we’re done testing the card we are going to give it away to one lucky Facebook fan. That is correct. You—yes, you—could win the PowerColor Devil 13 HD 7990 video card that we tested and reviewed in our February Issue, and have it inside your case in the very near future, provided your case can hold this 12” long monstrosity and you have a CrossFire-capable power supply with at least three eight-pin PCI-E connectors. We have the card all boxed up and ready to ship, and are even leaving the used Wiha tools inside the box too, despite Gordon’s insistence that we just say they got “lost” somehow. This bad boy is ready to ship, so get to entering, GPU aficionados. If you’d like to own the used PowerColor HD 7990 video card, all you have to do is…

How to Enter:

“Like” or already be a fan of Maximum PC on Facebook, and write an email to contests@maximumpc.com with the subject “PowerColor Devil 13 HD 7990” and in the body put your complete name, address, city, state, zip code, birthdate, and phone number. One prize winner will be randomly selected on February 8, 2013. This giveaway has rules, so please read them below. Also, this giveaway is regrettably only available to readers in the USA. The giveaway includes the PowerColor 7990 Devil 13 video card, wiha screwdriver set, video card stand, and the PowerColor Devil 13 box.

This sweepstakes has rules — read them in the next page please.

When is the drawing taking place? I've sacrificed the requisite number of goats and signed over my soul to the dark master so I'm just wondering when I should start making room in my case

avatar

moko

I hope I win : )

And like Maximumpc said about FB,you can make a seperate account for business stuff. That's good for jobs also.

And if your PC can't run the video card. . . . Its a good reason to upgrade.

Ide like to see how Skyrim looked with all the hi Res mods running,on this card : )

fortune82

I just have my old GTS 250 :/ anything would be an upgrade at this point

Since I LOATHE Facebook & refuse to make a FB account, I Guess this is one Contest I wont be entering.

avatar

Sheesh. I for one am glad that they don't require signing up via a FB app ... almost all giveaways I've seen involving FB make you use an FB app; I have all apps turned off because of security. Thanks MaxPC!

avatar

QuantumCD

I wish I could enter--not 18, albeit even if I could enter I wouldn't be able to afford the spike on my parent's power bill!

avatar

KRAVER

I cant believe some ppl are actually bitching about winning a free $1000 used video card. like wtf seriously... then dont enter!!
better chances for me to win.. and to anyone that did enter Good Luck !!

avatar

besweeet

The fact that they require all of your contact information right out of out the gate has me wondering what they plan on doing with all of that information. That info should only be needed if you win. NOPE.

avatar

kevjohn

I can't believe people are up in arms (with their "personal principles") about having to create a Facebook to win a contest for a sweet, expensive piece of gear. Facebook is not Beelzebub, it will not steal your immortal soul or turn you gay or burn your pimped out Corolla down to the frame. It's a website, one where anyone with an inkling of what they're doing can avoid being sucked into the evil Zuckerberg vortex if they so choose. Don't be afraid of it; don't let it defeat you.

Dunno...knew an NRA-member Afghanistan vet who wears high heels and drives a SmartCar now. Happened right after the Join Now click.

...You're*... and your name is Nimrod....

avatar

Im in agreement here the facebook requirement is nonsense

avatar

PCWolf

The reason for the FB requirement is that they want to Advertise using YOUR Facebook account. When you LIKE it, it will show up on all your friends Facebook page saying that you like it. Then they will throw one of you a Bone. (The Videocard)

avatar

fonto

Anyone else noticed that this is a used card? Also booo on facebook requirement.

avatar

Drew7

REALLY?! You're whining about a used card?! This is like a $1,000 card! I would gladly take it, and give my little brothers my current AMD HD 7850! F@cking spoiled-ass people! I doubt my brothers would complain about my "used" HD 7850! Jerk!

avatar

fonto

Not sure at what point I was whining about it being used. Just pointing out that fact. I would also gladly take the card. Calm down little bit bud.

avatar

supercourier

(not whining???) Never wanted to punch a baby to death before I met Fonto. WAAAAAH!!!

avatar

fonto

Gotta love how people will comment (read: whine) about other people "whining". When intelligence eludes, flex your web muscles.

avatar

Sir Hobbes3

I'd sign up but, i only have a 700w Corsair GS PSU, and I don't want a Facebook account. Besides, this would take up sooooooooo much space and make my Core 2 Quad Q6600 whimper.

avatar

rsaotome

Glad to see I'm not the only one who doesn't want a FaceBook account, even if it's for a kickass video card like this.

Thank you for the chance Maximum PC (not being sarcastic), but I'll wait for a non FB sponsored contest.

And no, I'm not too lazy to create a FB account, it's because of a personal principle.

avatar

joshnorem

No worries, we appreciate the understanding.

avatar

BlackmambaPT

Sad is a magazine like "Maximum PC" which is a company that embraces an international audience create contests that are U.S. only ... Should create conditions for customers of another country participating. even if we he had to pay the shipping costs of the prize.
Whether to continue to have a wider audience have to look more broadly at the international level.

avatar

joshnorem

Thanks Blackmamba. We are using the standard rules set forth by our company's legal department, so we are sorry if they left you out this time. We'll try to see if we can include more people in future promotions.

avatar

Cy-Kill

Your legal department is a bunch of dumb redneck hicks that know nothing about the world outside of america, and you can tell them I said that!

avatar

joshnorem

We will pass your feedback along :)

"Occasionally, we share your personal information (e.g., e-mail address) with a third-party sponsor, co-sponsor, or other reputable third party that provides products or services that may be of interest to you."

This quoted from their privacy rights website.

"If it's free you are not the customer, you are the product"

Personally, I don't trust the Canadians. They are too happy. It's awfully fishy.

Apparently I am not the only paranoid one!

avatar

zorak

Is there really any country that trust another completely? Here in Canada we choose to think well of people as much as possible. But if you try to invade us, you got yourself a beaver slappin' war lol

avatar

vrmlbasic

Thanks for creating a contest that doesn't require me to jump through hoops on Facebook to enter.

avatar

joshnorem

It's a $1,000 video card so we felt that people wouldn't mind doing two things to enter. You can always unlike us after the giveaway is over. :)

avatar

vrmlbasic

I wish I could enter simply by sending the email but if it isn't to be then I guess I'll live.

That my corsair power supply doesn't meet the power requirements of this beast of a card makes it easier.

avatar

AFDozerman

Wow, poor max pc. All they wanted to do was give away a card, and they managed to piss of everone on the planet that wasn't American or a facebook user...

avatar

Electrik

I think we should include Quebec in any contests because they are better than the rest of Canada. Just ask them.

Canadian/American, I reserve the right to make fun of my heritage.

xD

avatar

vrmlbasic

From my experience with the people of Quebec they'd take it as an insult to be lumped in with America in any capacity.

Quebec is just about the worst part of Canada I've found.

avatar

Electrik

That's why we left. ;)

avatar

xeridian

So, to all you people bitching about Facebook...
Just create a pseudo account and use it for entries only, are you people that lazy or just that dumb?

avatar

Penterax

Adding to the "Won't participate because of Facebook requirement" complaints.

There is close to a billion people on Facebook. Sounds impressive - until you realize that there are 6 billion people who AREN'T.

avatar

tweeve

If I win I am going to have to build a whole new computer.
My little core2 quad will choke and die at the sight of that monster.

avatar

Brock Kane

I would never get a facebook account, ever!

It would be nice, to just use an email address for your contests.

Why is facebook so important to society now? We got along fine without it before. And guess what? There were still lots of Contests!!! Imagine that???!!!

avatar

West996

It's funny that you mention that. Because of this Canadian/American debate I've been reading through the laws around running a legal 'giveaway' or 'sweepstakes' and one of the conditions is that the sponsor does not benefit financially from it.

They want you to go through Facebook because increasing their 'likes' increases their advertising revenue. I guess that is the gray area to the whole 'not benefiting financially' requirement.

avatar

West996

I'm pretty sure all you have to do to get around the Canadian requirements is have a 'skill testing question' which technically makes in a 'contest'. It is usually just a simple BEDMAS question, but that also might discriminate against a big % of Americans so, its a lose/lose. ;)

avatar

Cy-Kill

Not all our contests require skill-testing questions, all they really need to do is what they are already doing. See the following sentence, taken directly from MPC's rules:

"NO PURCHASE OR PAYMENT OF ANY KIND IS NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN."

avatar

West996

There is more to it then that, you just have to do a quick google search. These rules are put in place to prevent companies from creating their own private 'lotteries'.

In the states they have to make sure that the sponsor does not gain financially from the draw, so that is why you see the 'No purchase required' disclaimers.

Canada has an additional requirement. That the person can not be chosen on luck alone. This is where the skill testing question comes in.

There are other exceptions, and ways to run a 'giveaway' or 'sweepstakes', so no, not EVERY Canadian draw has one, that is most likely because they have taken out the 'pure' random aspect in another way. For example draws that require a submission that will be 'judged' in some way for skill replace the skill testing component.
