Be aware that it's already been acknowledged that the final game when released will be for less than the current $60 asking price. They're asking almost 2x the eventual retail price now because kick starter supporters paid that much for beta access way back when and they think that they need to charge that much now to protect them for some reason.

I would think the reason is obvious. Charging the general public less than the backers had to pay for beta access would alienate the backers just a tad.

correct.

One thing to bear in mind however, is we backers also get loot for our donation, not just the game and early access.

some of the commenters on steam are really pissed about the price point. Its an entertaining read if you have the time.

Correct.

You are paying for the early access.

Wouldn't Wasteland 1 and 2 be the longest wait between videogame sequels ever? Like 25 or 26 years?

avatar

Just looked up a few things in Wikipedia, the wait for Wasteland is 25+ years, Link to the past 22 years, Tron 21 years, Doom 11 years, Duke Nukem 15 years, Half Life still waiting..., Bionic Commando 23yrs (? from the original to Rearmed 2 WHICH is a sequel to rearmed WHICH is a remake of the original... so), Boy and his Blob 20yrs, Half Life STILL WAITING...

So I'm gonna say... great guess on LTTP! Damn hope we don't have to wait till 2025 for Half Life 3... though it may look like so :/...

2025 for HL3 would only be 17 years (last installment: HL2E2 in 2008). That would push HL3 to 2033 at least to beat the record.

Or are you a part of a silly group that does not consider HL2 a sequel to HL?

I think so!

The second longest is probably the wait between A Link to the Past and A Link Between Worlds.

Wasteland is considered one of the best games ever made (He also made Baldors Gate, which is also considered one of the best ever made.

Brian pioneered dynamic environmental decision making.

His company didnt make fallout 3, so this is the REAL sequel to the original Fallout 1 and 2, although the lore is strictly wasteland.

if you haven't seen the original kick-starter video, you have to watch it, its hilarious.

Brian Fargo had nothing to do with Baldur's Gate. That was all Bioware.

Interplay grew to over 600 employees at its zenith in the mid-1990s. One of the most successful groups within Interplay was formed during this period, Black Isle. Black Isle focused on role-playing games and eventually included the games of a new developer called BioWare. Initially BioWare was contracted for Shattered Steel for Interplay. The next game they developed for Interplay, through the Black Isle division, was Baldur's Gate, which proved to be a big hit, followed by others, such as Icewind Dale and the critically acclaimed Planescape: Torment. Black Isle's celebrated Fallout, which took some inspiration from Wasteland but was unique in its own right, was a personal project of Fargo, who served as its executive producer and was involved in setting the tone and sensibilities of the game.

so yes, he did.

watch the video i linked, he goes through all the big ones he was involved with.

as a side note, i didnt know this till i read the Wikipedia article, he is a direct decedent of the founder of Wells-Fargo and American Express.

I think you might have it upside down. Brian wanted to make Wasteland 2, but didn't have the rights, so he changed it up to make Fallout.

avatar

The Mac

sorry, yes, backwards...

its the real sequel to Wasteland, fallout was a derivative work...

It's freaking awesome to triple your goal to make a game like that....
