Oculus Rift works well. It does a good job at doing what it says it does. It's enjoyable, but maybe not enjoyable enough to want to put it on all that often. Though there is a certain type of gamer that I think will enjoy it enough to use it all the time.

I think when it's combined with Kinect type technology we're going to see some really interesting, amazing stuff. You get a real sense for this when using it, because the things that take away from that Oculus' realism would be easily solved by combining it with such a device.

For those of you saying OMG 1000 is such a low resolution. Consider this is gonna be on a screen smaller than most (dumb)phones.

I did. 1000 * 1000 is still too small.

I'm also concerned that this device doesn't appear to have its screen set to cover both a 180 degree vertical and 180 degree horizontal field of vision.

The Ultimate Virtual Reality, will be a device like those seen in Star Trek Voyagers "Equinox" or in Battlestar Galactica: Caprica, that you wear on your head, & will send direct signals to your brain to make you think you are actually there inside the game. This device will make Gaming the true ultimate experience where you can be your character & actually live the game. Sad part is, that will most likely be the last thing Humanity invents as everyone will just be Home & never go outside ever again. We'll have to invent Robots to keep the power flowing & to replace the IV bags with liquid nutrition so we don't die of starvation while we rot away in our Virtual Worlds. & you thought Kids that didn't go outside because they was too busy playing games today were bad.

Bruce Willis was pretty good in that movie (Surrogates).

i used iGlasses. this technology is over-hyped. the only benefit is when it is cheaper than a big ass tv and provides the best surround sound possible.

They need higher resolution. When pixels are that close it is very important to have high resolution displays.

1000x1000 pixels per eye?! That sounds mighty low to me.

Who wants to play games with that stupid thing stuck to your face? Hello, Virtual Boy.

I can't wait for this VR fad to die.

avatar

Virtual Boy was not Stuck or attached to your head, & you had to put it on a table then stick your face in it. And had nasty dark Red/Black graphics. I want VR research to continue so we can reach the point where we will have that "Poor Mans Holodeck" device from Star Trek Voyager that you put on your Temple & it made you think you was actually there at the beach! Now THAT would be the ultimate VR! & I can't wait for Researchers to turn Science Fiction into Science Fact. Also, Remember that someone like you once said that Video games were just a Fad. Imagine if they followed your advice about VR.

Is that 110 degrees diagonal or horizontal? I believe the Rift DK is 110 degrees diagonal so I'm assuming that's what you mean, but I'd like to be sure. That FOV is pretty good, but I'd love it if they could increase it at least a little more for the first consumer version.

Can't wait to try this, although to tell you the truth the type of games I like (strategy, party/tactical RPGs) are not the type that can use this that much. Maybe for MMOs (though it'd be hard to use the keyboard with this I'm guessing)
