Absurd Hike in Royalty Rates Might Lead to iTunes Closure: Apple
Posted 10/01/2008 at 10:32:48pm
It seems the DRM/Hardware Lock approach to music is collapsing already. Itunes has a huge following and have captured the market and the artist and labels have made apple rich, now they want a piece of the pie too. Apple can only remain closed for so long before they run out of customers, everything about apple is over priced and over hyped. I am not buying an ipod and certainly not buying mp3s.
Like others have said I buy the CD and rip it. Why pay for compressed music. Sell WAV files or lossless music formats like FLAC.
Everything Firefox Users Need to Know About Internet Explorer 8
Posted 09/03/2008 at 10:06:02am
I am surpised that Google CHROME is not all over this site yet. I like Chrome the littly bit i have used it. The best part about Chrome to which i wish MS would do, is allow each tab to work in a separate process. I open 7 tabs for my IE 7 home page and it seems each one has to download in order instead of the same time. and if one tab crashes, i loose them all.
But Chrome is certainly the ugliest browser, extremely flat and bland looking. It performs well, the builtin search and address bar is cool; simular to VISTA/2008 start menu.
It's Official - Comcast Announces 250GB/Month Bandwidth Cap
Posted 08/29/2008 at 04:00:34pm
With a definitive number in hand we now know how much is excessive bandwidth. I guess people who have eight machines downloading the same material over and over will have to setup repositories like WSUS for windows updates, or point the McAfee's to a single desktop for updates recycling the bits. what a world we are living. every part of our lives are moving towards digital this and that, just like the lists provided in other comments, but as we digitize the cable companies arent able to keep up with the demand, and penalize us for it. perhaps they would have more bandwidth if they get out of the tv and phone business.
I bet that part of this limit is to keep neighbors from sharing connections. I have thought about selling my bandwidth to neighbors, pool the money together and then share the service.
ComCast must be the single worst company for service and customer service.

Comcast Hatches Another Plan to Manage Heavy Users
Posted 08/21/2008 at 02:45:50pm
This is why I moved to Uverse. 10mbps down 1.5 up and no worries. i have had my service for many months and not an outage yet. whereas comcast was nearly twice a week. usually at 4pm to 6pm. their response was they were at capacity in my area. Duh? why has the capacity not scaled with the area? This is the biggest drawback to cable Inet service, shared pipe. Its like thicknet all over again.
what good is 6mbps from cable if you can only use it at 12am to 5am. other times you are subjected to a really good dsl experience. but the price is the same 50bucks.
Most Enterprises Intend to Skip Vista All Together: Survey
Posted 08/17/2008 at 08:28:11pm
Vista is not being deployed in the enterprise market because MS went and created a consumer OS and did not create a need for business to migrate to VISTA. The best reasons for for businesses to adopt VISTA is NAC/NAP, Better control over the OS with group policies and better security out of the box compared to xp. When released IT admins really could not use VISTA to perform administrative tasks within the domain we had to remote to another server or an XP box to do the job we used to be able to do locally. To use the NAC and better group policies windows server 2008 ADDS has to be used, guess what WS08 was not released yet. So Vista did not get deployed, the employees did not use VISTA, and did not want it, and did not buy vista for home.
Vista should be installed like WS08, in 15 minutes its done. You have a GUI and then you turn on services needed run the machine.
DirectX 10 was a failure so what use is the os?

AT&T Wireless Says it Will Ban P2P Users
Posted 08/03/2008 at 07:30:23am
At least ATT was upfront and honest about it. I am sure the wireless network being used now barely has enough bandwidth for the little bit of data being transferred now. The communications companies simply make their living off of the fact that most of us will never fully utilize the bandwidth and when we do we are labeled and throttled.
