Memory Chip Makers Look to Reduce Costs by Asking Workers to Take Unpaid Leave

Sure better than
- Losing your job completely.
- Getting a pay cut and still keeping same hours.
- Losing any additional benifits from the company.

I consider myself lucky to be in an area with Verizon FIOS. 20Mb/5Mb with no restrictions.
Verizon has no service limit as of yet, and they say that they have no intention of implementing one.
Besides, a limit of anything less than 250GB would be insane; why do I need such a fast speed if I can't get anything with it!?
Anyone who needs fast internet, GO VZ!!!

Can you buy it by itself, or do you have to buy a velociraptor and remove the drive
(which will void the drive's warranty!)?
The Disk Defrag Difference

So, I still don't get it (and after all the other useless comments to answer this)...
I STILL USE XP, AND HAVE NO INTEREST IN SHELLING OUT FOR VISTA, BASED ON MPC's VISTA REVIEW (Oct08). WHICH DEFRAGGER DO I USE?
THANKS TO ALL.
How To: Slipstream Windows XP SP3 and Vista SP1

I find it CRAZY ANNOYING having to reinstall every program every time I reinstall.
There are programs that turn ANY programs into add-ons for nlite and vlite. You can then add ANY program that you want to your install. Here are a few that I added (ALL FREEWARE):
You can make add-ons for almost ANY program. THIS is for power users!
I wish that the magazine would cover this, instead of just the basic slipstream.
Maximum PC Essentials: Ultimate BIOS Tweaking Guide

But stability is always important. MPC will KILL a PC rating because of instability. Some of these tweeks can prevent or create instability and knowing what to do is as important as what NOT to do!
Maximum PC Essentials: Ultimate BIOS Tweaking Guide

It would have been nice if MPC would discuss the "advanced timings" (as well as tRFC). These timings are VERY important for getting MAXIMUM CAPACITY out of your memory slots.
I just installed 1gb DDR2 Corsair Dominator 8500s in all 4 slots of my 680i (1066mhz), and 2gb DDR3s OCZ's (1600mhz) in all 4 slots of an MSI X48, and setting these timings high (specifically tRC & tRFC) is the ONLY way to get a stable system!!
Check out the forums by Corsair, OCZ and several other memory makers; these advanced timings are the only way to get a stable system!!!
Hope that this helps someone; maybe MPC can help explain these timings (I know that MSI can't.)
Blu-Ray and Digital Distribution Likely to Co-Exist
Posted 09/27/2008 at 08:36:46pm
I have read in many propaganda based articles that digital is the new in thing, and that CDs, DVDs and the like will all disappear.
IT WILL NOT HAPPEN ANY TIME SOON.
When I pay $$$ to watch a movie, I want good quality, and don't want crazy software installed on my PC. When I play a game, I want the disc so that I can use it at my discression, not to have to be subject to some PC in a server farm halfway across the globe. I WANT IT TO WORK ON MY TERMS, OR I WILL NOT SPEND MY CASH ON IT. PERIOD. I do believe that the majority of users want physical media with packaging that looks nice, and maybe even a nice instruction manual or the like. It is the movie industry that wants to save money on making disks, packaging, manuals etc that want us to use digital media, better for their bottom line.
Well here is my bottom line; I like CDs, DVDs and BD discs, and Hard drives attached to MY pc to store my stuff. Period.
Maximum PC Gets Screwed So You Don't Have To: Ultimate Screwdriver Review Roundup
Posted 09/24/2008 at 08:07:58pm
Maybe I missed something? In MPC April 2006 pg42 (build a laptop) Gordon recommends using WIHA presicion screwdrivers. I personally own a number of screwdrivers from WIHA (based on this recommedation) and find them of excellent quality and easy to use. Pair it with a magnetizer/demagnetizer for about 10 bucks and you need no more. They even have several types of screwdrivers; ratchet, preseicion, comfort, etc.
