Microsoft to Offer Free Antivirus Software

Posted 11/19/2008 at 11:15:36am

If Onecare is an example of what Microsoft intends this product to be, no thanks.  It's just like Symantec- it mucks around with delicate system settings, so that if you try to uninstall it, your system can become nearly unusable.

Sure it's free, but I wouldn't want a bucket of crap if it was free.  You get what you pay for.

As much as I'm not a fan of Microsoft, the buyout would have given both companies the competitive edge they need to compete with Google.  Monopolies are never good, and ironically, Microsoft could prevent one from happening with Google.

All the more reason to promote the use of open-source software in developing nations.  When you use proprietary software, you put yourself at the mercy of its developers for continued support.

CD key verifcation seems to work really well, unless it's not a multiplayer game.

Cracked copies of the game are actually better than the 'real' ones: you don't have to deal with CD checks, games that refuse to run if you have Daemon Tools installed, phoning home, etc.

...is not HD-DVD, it's DVD.

Just like Windows XP is Vista's biggest competitor.

After looking at HD movies, at least on my little screen, I can't see much difference between them and DVD.

And don't even get me started on HDCP.  Who wants to buy a product that you can't put on your moblie device, or even copy to your laptop's hard drive to save battery power and not have to lug discs with you on vacation?

Sweet, maybe they'll switch to Linux.  :)
