Spore Movie Evolves -- Sprouts Director, Writers

Posted 10/02/2009 at 08:44:38am

Basically, I can's see how they can do a film about Spore without a heavy message on evolution. And we all know that's a much-loved subject in the U.S. ;) The drama surrounding the movie might even be more entertaining than the film itself. lol

Disbarred Lawyer Jack Thompson Targets Facebook with $40 Million Lawsuit

"I hate Jack Thompson" is an opinion and "Jack Thompson never played Zelda" might be true. The first can't be sued against because of 1st Amend Rights, the second, if provable, is presented as fact and also protected. Furthermore, can he prove he approached Facebook to have the groups removed? If he didn't, well then they can just remove them now and call it a day. But they won't.

Hands-On Impressions: Diablo III is Good Old-Fashioned Fun

Yes, HALO was one hell of a fun time. I, too, did the HALO 2 for XP port. And like you only played it a short while before giving up on it. Tried to play it again with my girlfriend on her XBOX, but a couple hours in I was still unimpressed. The story completely turned me off. Where HALO was a tight, personal story, the sequel tried to go all 'big time'. It wasn't the same. Felt campy and lame. The thrill was gone. I hear HALO 3 is better, so may give that a try in the future.

As a side note, I started on consoles with the original NES. Jumped to SEGA, then back to the N64. Damn near played them all though. FPS and real-time strategy are my favorite genre's so I made the switch to PC pretty much full time after N64. PC gaming may not have all the games consoles have (no big loss there), but it's certainly the best platform for them. Graphics, controls, mods, multiplayer.

Microsoft Apologizes for Photoshopping Black Man out of Promotional Image

Not sure about that second question. Are you implying that I think it is racist? Or are you asking how the media will spin it to be racist? If the media is interested in mitigating racial tension then they'd offer the same numbers I found. But they don't. The point being that if you just drop this story on someone in America chances are they will be upset that a black man is not 'good enough' for a Microsoft ad. But they don't tell you it was changed for Poland because the number of blacks is a very low percent of the population and do not properly represent the market.

From a quick browse on cia.org it looks like 95%+ of the population is white, so my guess is they changed it to better represent the actual market. Seems logical to me. But still funny as hell! Who leaves the hand black? lmao.

The only people who will have a problem with this are here in the U.S. The media seems to like maintaining a steady level of racial tension.

Blizzard: LAN Will Be “a Great Footnote in Our History”

Posted 08/17/2009 at 11:34:48pm

Ya know, I'd almost agree with them, except I was at Quakecon this last weekend... and all Internet games except QuakeLive was completely unplayable. In fact, I take that back. I don't almost agree with them. Almost every gaming household uses a small network, so even in the event of losing Internet to the outside world (which still happens, but apparantly not in the future) friends and/or family could still play. This decision reeks of alterior motive. The most apparent would be to push the new Battle.Net. Other's may be piracy and cost savings.

But another poster is right, it'll be hacked regardless. Apparently Blizzard can't see into the future far enough to know how to prevent that.

Basically the manufacturer dropped the ball. I'm not impressed yet.

Spiderman, Evil Dead Director Helming World of Warcraft Movie

Posted 07/22/2009 at 04:11:56pm

I agree that Doom was definitely done wrong. IMO it should have been more Aliens style, where Earth loses contact with the Mars station, the Marines are sent in and terror ensues. We're left with the lone hero, and away we go. A sequel would probably work better then, along the lines of Doom 2. Marine makes his way back home to Earth and receives orders to land near the new source and destroy it. To fill it in more they could show the evacuations and armed forces in full conflict with the demons.

As for Warcraft they almost can't start at the beginning. A deeper story of Warcraft doesn't really start until after War 1. Warcraft 2 is where it started to fill in with some depth.

Political Group Proposes a Kindle for Every Student

Posted 07/16/2009 at 10:45:00pm

Seems that everyone is overlooking one major detail. The school system (ie. government) can barely afford to keep teachers paid, let alone provide high-tech gear to EACH friggin child. I say try paying your teachers more and discipline the children and they'll actually get educated. Ya know, actually act like education is important before the super-brains come up with multi-billion dollar plans to justify their job. Maybe they should come up with a way to actually pay for these devices AND pay teachers before suggesting anything.

Do we really think a fancy device will make our education system better? I'm gonna go out on a limb and say... no. The American culture does not respect education as much as others do. That's why we're contantly down on the list. A shift in cultural thinking and financial support for teachers would make a bigger difference. Let's start at the basics before throwing mad cash around.
