Release Notes: I Am Not, Nor Have I Ever Been, a Fanboy

Posted 10/21/2009 at 11:27:35am

Logical users have no place in an article about illogical people by the way. If your using a 64 bit computer with over 4 gigs of ram and running XP 32 your plain stupid, and wasting money. Win7 requiring 64 to be faster than XP is not a downside, It just means its faster. You may not need all that fancy smancy web app integration but most of the world likes progress hence the reason we drive cars instead of riding horses or use calculators instead of doing basic math on paper. They all work, for basic needs but we still be chucking rocks at animals if everyone thought like you do.

WiMax Gets Biggest Boost Yet with Atlanta Installation

Posted 06/21/2009 at 01:01:22pm

The main reason this is better is because it is not spotty. WiMax is a 4g network known for having far greater reception and range than 3g networks. Unlike 3g broadband it is easily usable while moving in a vehicle at high speeds. If they say Atlanta is covered it means you can great reception in 99% of the city. 4-6 mbps reception anywhere in a city is definetly worth $40 a month, especially when cell carrier plans tend to be more expensive.

I pretty sure touch not working on the edges of the screen is less a problem with windows and more a problem with the screen itself.

Doomed Online Campaign Urges Microsoft to Release Windows 7 Now

Posted 02/02/2009 at 12:15:31am

More like 98 was to 95. Ask yourself what the difference was between the two. Without looking anything up I doubt you would be able to name 10.  People who expect a complete OS redesign every time are the problem here and thats why vista failed. XP was a pretty large step and they felt they needed to up the ante next time around and ended up not acheiving their goals and releasing would could have been a 3 year release after 6 years.

I don't know if you think a completely redesigned taskbar along with many other features to improve usability is minor upgrade, but in my book its a pretty major ones especially when compared to other updates. (OS 10.6 = better 64 bit compatibility, Sounds like something I read on the description of an update). Windows 7 = large change when compared to other OS updates.

Ultimate Malware Removal Guide -- Purge Your PC of Junk Files!

Posted 01/29/2009 at 09:06:07am

Vista does everything you describe OS X does by limiting control to system files with passwords and prompting users for permission to access or change and goes a step further to do the same with the program files folder.  Yet microsoft still recommends you to use virus software. Why, they dealing with millions of people and there are two sure things about that group of people. They will be smart and stupid and stupid people will click on things to get them off the screen no matter they are and smart malicious people are happy to exploit. In short they can't account for everything by closing off system files.

I bet if you call apple right now and ask them whether you should use anti virus software they would tell you yes. You do acknowledge that windows has more viruses because of its higher amount of users, but some other information you don't know is that many more vulnerabilities are found per year on mac and most of them are more severe than their windows counter parts.  Apple also does not report or acknowledge security vulnerabilities it has.  So in general your Mac has vulnerabilities, apple won't tell you what they are, apple won't tell you when they fix them, they can be exploited any day without proper firewall/ anti virus software.

P.S. XP is a 9 year old OS your comparing to a brand new one.

SKUs Galore for Windows 7 - Leaked Screenshot Reveals Multi-Edition Design (again!)

Posted 01/26/2009 at 11:47:23pm

I love how people haven't realized that windows 7 is mainly shipping in 64 bit. The only way your getting 32 bit windows 7 is if you:

A. buy a 32 bit computer that comes with windows 7 installed. (unlikely due to fact the 90% of computers made today are 64-bit)

B. Specifically buy windows and force 32-bit upon yourself.

The 32 bit version is available so people with older computers and netbooks/ UMPCs can enjoy windows 7 not because microsoft isn't pushing 64 bit.

Microsoft will even give you a 64 bit installation disc for free if you go to their web site and enter in your current vista key.(unless its OEM then you have to either borrow and installation disc or resort to torrents,  but you can still use your key and thus you aren't violating any laws.)

As for the versions.. Meh. Starter doesn't matter because most people will never see it. Home premium is for your average home user, business is for... businesses and ultimate is for people who use their computer for entertainment and business. Explain it to someone who doesn't understand like that and you will be fine.  As for the whole two thing I challenge you take one of those 3 out and not leave a group of customers pissed (I am ignoring Home basic because it stupid and should disappear). Many of you talk about wanting a home and business version, but what if someone wants both feature sets. If you had Home and ultimate then a business would be pissed because their paying a ton of money for extra features they don't want people using.  Three is the perfect number of SKUs (Starter isn't applicable and Basic is stupid).

Whats even funnier is the people who want the different mods so you could buy features you want seperately and then go on to say there are too many SKUs

PST. If your confused by 4 SKUs mods will drive you insane

Playstation 3 Has Strict Video Rental DRM

Posted 09/25/2008 at 04:18:26pm

As DRM goes it all sucks,  but certain kinds really suck.  The kind where you can't back it up and you get a one time redownload really suck.  Sony could have easily tied the DRM to the console that downloaded it and allowed redownloads to sate the movie industry,(like on xbox live) but they didn't.  Sony's completely onboard with screwing its customers.  They both don't care at all about consumers only their money.  Even Microsoft is more consumer friendly in this respect. In fact you can even download on multiple xboxs because the download is tied to your xbox live account not your console.  Way to go MS
