I agree wholeheartedly.

Oh no, comics in a PC magazine... what will they have next? Satire in news magazines?

Welcome to America.

Kindle 2 Price Slashed by $60

Posted 07/11/2009 at 03:16:44pm

I'm pretty impressed with the kindle, and I've been on the sidelines waiting to buy for a while, but a $60 price drop isn't enough to me. I suspect others may agree: $300 is a lot of money for the middle class to buy a gadget that can do what can mostly be done for free after a short trip to the friendly neighborhood library...

My gut feeling is that I'll buy it when it gets down to $150 - about half of its current price. And I don't even know if THAT is a rational decision... but I love reading, and these days more and more of my reading is on the internet - the eye strain and bad posture in front of my computer just may be enough to push me into ownership of something I can curl up on the couch with...(laptop doesn't cut it)

Report: SSDs Save Companies Money in the Long Run

Posted 07/11/2009 at 06:42:34am

To the first commenter:

The cost to repair is more than just the part. Consider the down time experienced by the individual whose hard drive crashed. Consider the data loss that may have occured and the cost of recovery, especially at firms that deal with intellectual data, with users that don't necessarily use the company servers. Next, consider the amount of time it takes you to order the new drive and replace the old drive. All this time the workstation's person can't work. There is more involved than just the cost of the drive itself.

 To the second commenter:

I couldn't find data on who funded it, but I imagine it was a study funded by J.Gold Associates, LLC. It doesn't seem like a complicated study - pretty much common sense analysis - maybe a day or two worth of research and composition? So not sure how much funding it would have needed. Here is there press release if you want to scour it for more information:

NewsWhy can't we debate rationally? on
Barack Obama USB Drive Promises 8GB You Can Believe In

Posted 07/01/2009 at 07:28:51am

I kind of wish people could debate rationally rather than getting offended at every political icon. Isn't that what made America great to begin with? The freedom to disagree, but state a clear rationale for their disagreement, such that others either be persuaded or dissuaded through the strength of the argument's basis/points. "I hate this opinion", or "I don't want to see that" are not valid arguments in a free society of liberated peoples. "This is good for us because..." and "This is bad for us because..." is a place to start. If we cannot debate with each other, if we put on blinders and confront each other only with hatred and slander, how will we ever know when we are wrong, and how will we ever begin to understand the correct means to accomplish the continued success of our nation?

In my opinion,  an Obama thumb drive is awesome. Equally as awesome would be a McCain thumb drive, if you will. Why? Because it gets us talking. And if we talk rationally with open eyes, we'll feel less like strangling each other and have a greater respect for the complexity of the situations that we face as a nation.
