The Karmic Koala Makes Its Debut: Ubuntu 9.10 Now Available

I have a apt-mirror running at hone and started getting the packages for it about a month ago just to avoid the slow d/l speeds of the release day.  If you have several buntu machines running at home I suggest setting up a apt-mirror for your home this way you have a server that gets all the packages and then just point your other machines to the server and viola.

The Karmic Koala Makes Its Debut: Ubuntu 9.10 Now Available

I think what they were trying to imply is that there is now a netbook version of Kubuntu available.  It's pretty slick and it has the AIR theme all throughout it.  Go d/l it from www.kubuntu.org and fire it up in a VM and try it out.

Everything You Need To Know about Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala)

When your boot menu is up edit the grub entry for your linux install it is possible that it got the wrong hd number in there.  I have this happen all the time with mine where it get's the wrong number for my windows install and I have to go in there and change it to the right number.  Just remember that editing the boot menu here will not be saved if you find that this was the case remember that after you get it booted back up you will have to go edit it as root and save it.

How-To: Install Windows 7 the Right Way

Posted 10/22/2009 at 09:52:43am

One thing that Windows7 allows you to do is install a copy of it to a Virtual HD so since you would need to reinstall it just reinstall it to a VHD that way you leave your existing setup in tact and you can try out the 64bit release and then when you deem it worthy just blow away the VHD and reload your box.  Or you could always just leave the VHD in place since it won't hurt anything.  Also even though it is a VHD and it is technically a VM running with this route the VM gets direct access to your hardware unlike running in say VMWare.

Ultimate Router Guide: How to Optimize Security and Performance

Of cours in windows if your wondering what networks are around you for finding a clear channel you can use net stumbler.
But for us linux users out there I recently discovered a very awesome tool called kismet.  Kismet will not only sniff out all of the wireless networks out there but through packet sniffing will also find out the names of your networks that are not broadcasting.  I found a neighboor who was not broadcasting and also had their network wide open I couldn't believe they went the step of turning off the broadcast but didn't lock it down that was about useless.  If your a linux user try out kismet it's a little tricky to get setup but one it is, it's awesome.

Synegy also works in Linux as well which is huge.  Especially for those of us at work who need to have both a Windows and a Linux box on there desktop.  I use synergy religously here at work I wouldn't know what to do with out it.
