Browser Ballot Screen Won’t be Limited to Windows 7

Posted 08/02/2009 at 07:15:42pm

What Microsoft did was use the Windows Explorer as a foundation and added bells and whistles to it.  That is why they can't un-install it!  Try un-installing Safari on an Apple product.  I'm not a MS Fan-boy but if I make a product and you don't like it, I'm going to tell you to not buy it.  There are plenty of Linux based products out there that can be used for free that DON'T have IE7, or 8 on it.  Use them I would say, and there are enough products out there to be able to open MS products too to install on that Linux.  You had to learn to use an MS product, quit your bitching and learn one of them.  Or better yet, buy an Apple product and buy twice to 3 times what an IBM clone costs.  If you don't like it..DON'T BUY IT, I believe that goes without saying.

Ask the Doctor: Everything is Broken

Posted 06/25/2009 at 07:58:19am

I have seen more blown caps in the last couple months too.  I get them all the time in my shop with freeze ups in Winodws, unexplainable corruption of data, and freeze ups OUTSIDE of windows (in Quickteck testing software, in the boot-up screens, etc..).  Look at the capacitors all over the mainboard and check the way the metal is crossed on top.  Look for brown or white crusty material leaking out of them or even "almost popped" ones too.  I also had this problem with a "certain-brand board" which are in the forums of it's support pages that out of no where it starts to act up about 15 to 20 months after first use. We have since quit using that brand board. BTW, there is nothing bad showing on the board either. So go to your support pages of that board and check there too!!

Ask the Doctor: 64-Bit Choice

Posted 06/07/2009 at 10:11:23am

I have been using 64bit xp pro for years and never really had an issue.  I have yet to see a driver I can't get.  I even played Everquest 1, 2, QuildWars, Vanguard, FryCry 1, 2 and more and NEVER had an issue.  What I did/do notice is that everything WILL run better memory wise.  I use Win7 64bit RC now on an i7 and 6 gb of ram and have yet to come close to using it all at one time.  I guess if you did HD video editing you could but 99% of users won't neeed over that.  I use an older HP printer, old Kodak camera, any of the cell phones I have never had an issue with accessing files or use on them.  The biggest thing is YOU have to learn that most driver disks are useless with a 64 bit OS.  Go to the website of manufacturer and look it up.  I have also used Creative sound cards forever with a 64 bit OS and haven't had an issue.  If you can't figure it out, take it to a shop in your area and they will do it for you.  If it was that big of an issue, it would have been fixed. Yes, there may be some still with issues, but they will be rare.  If you can't find a driver/program for your 64 bit OS, Use a better company for your parts/programs. But don't complain that it is still buggy or has major issues.

I say this for one reason...  take the plunge.  Chances are you won't have any issues.

How-To: Get Rid of Bloatware on Your New Laptop

Posted 04/16/2009 at 07:06:51pm

I have told people for years that the big companies have done this to make an extra buck; HP is very famous fo rthis because they even do it on desktops too.  These companies do this to eek out another couple bucks hoping you will click on links so they can "get credit for the referral".  I sell new computers WITHOUT this stuff, you're best bet is to get to know a local geek with a shop and have him build and load a system for you.  And yes...technically it is illegal to "download a copy", so don't get caught.  :)
