CNN Thinks the Apple Tablet will be the Best Thing in the World
Posted 11/18/2009 at 12:26:23am
I expect nothing less from CNN. This is the same "news source" that put out a headline on problems some students were having installing Windows 7. Click on the link and you find out it's a CNN-Money Apple blog. They're about as "fair and balanced" as Fox these days, except it's on the other extreme.

AOL Battens Down Hatches in Preperation for Huge Layoffs
Posted 11/10/2009 at 10:11:07pm
Back in the day, when it was still a little expensive for me to get 3 1/2" floppies, I used to format over the AOL discs that would come on the magazines. Cheaper that way.
I still have a ton of these in a container with some ancient backup files (I even have AOL ver. 2.5 for DOS). But seriously, even though I loathe AOL (except for the free discs), I really hate to see layoffs, especially at this time of year, happen to anyone.

I am gonna make it a point to listen to 2112 on 12/21/12 ^_^.
Study: HDDs Headed for the Bargain Bin, Not Obsolescence

I remember thinking that when I got my first HDD..."How am I gonna fill up 10MB?" Right now I have a 120GB as my main drive and a 1TB as my storage drive, and I still have a lot of room still on both, but with games getting bigger and bigger size-wise...
I hope to eventually go with an SSD boot drive, once the prices come down myself.
Release Notes: I Am Not, Nor Have I Ever Been, a Fanboy

Makes me think of a Columbus policeman who used to work security at my old store. He had bought an NVidia GeForce 3 Ti200, then shortly afterward heard that the ideal way to play the (not-yet-released) Doom 3 would be with an ATI 9700 Pro.
Sure enough, he went out and bought the ATI and yanked the GeForce, then asked me if I wanted to buy a slightly used GeForce for $70...^_^

Hmm. My crotchedy old ass must have missed this one on your list. Namely...
The Conformist: The guy who buys based on the biggest name on the block. Blinds themselves to any flaws said company may have made in their product (Some of the worst I've seen in that catagory are actually Sony fanboys, but even though I have seen Microsoft fanboys, I honestly haven't seen as many of them). Their mantra? "Accept it. <fillintheblank> is dominant."
Beware! Scareware on the Prowl

I have never fallen for these, but judging from the number of people who have sent their computers to me to fix after downloading crap like Antivirus 08/09 in the last year and a half, it must be pretty prevelant.
I have told them never to download programs like these (usually they'll get some popup that claims it is "scanning" their system, then (surprise) it "finds" malware that only a download of their wonder program can remove), but unfortunatly fear seems to rule over reason when they see a popup, download, then visit me when their system inevitably pukes.
Oh well, I shouldn't complain. I probably wouldn't make half as much money if they actually listened to my advice ^_^.

Because I don't like playing on-line, it's pretty useless to me (and for the record, I am a Gold user; got the 1 year subscription cheap). I don't download movies on my 360 (even if I had a bigger HDD I wouldn't), and the only thing I really do with it is occasionally take advantage of the Gold deals (recent Pinball FX for 500 points being an example) and I like the ability to download a demo a week early (though I find it thouroghly retarded to use a promo used to sell a game to get you to subscribe to Gold).
Given the fact that Sony is charging zilch to use their service, MS would be shooting themselves in the foot if they chose to raise Gold any more than it's current $50, especially given the current economic climate.
