I am gonna make it a point to listen to 2112 on 12/21/12 ^_^.
Study: HDDs Headed for the Bargain Bin, Not Obsolescence
Posted 10/26/2009 at 03:21:04pm
I remember thinking that when I got my first HDD..."How am I gonna fill up 10MB?" Right now I have a 120GB as my main drive and a 1TB as my storage drive, and I still have a lot of room still on both, but with games getting bigger and bigger size-wise...
I hope to eventually go with an SSD boot drive, once the prices come down myself.
Release Notes: I Am Not, Nor Have I Ever Been, a Fanboy

Makes me think of a Columbus policeman who used to work security at my old store. He had bought an NVidia GeForce 3 Ti200, then shortly afterward heard that the ideal way to play the (not-yet-released) Doom 3 would be with an ATI 9700 Pro.
Sure enough, he went out and bought the ATI and yanked the GeForce, then asked me if I wanted to buy a slightly used GeForce for $70...^_^

Hmm. My crotchedy old ass must have missed this one on your list. Namely...
The Conformist: The guy who buys based on the biggest name on the block. Blinds themselves to any flaws said company may have made in their product (Some of the worst I've seen in that catagory are actually Sony fanboys, but even though I have seen Microsoft fanboys, I honestly haven't seen as many of them). Their mantra? "Accept it. <fillintheblank> is dominant."
Beware! Scareware on the Prowl

I have never fallen for these, but judging from the number of people who have sent their computers to me to fix after downloading crap like Antivirus 08/09 in the last year and a half, it must be pretty prevelant.
I have told them never to download programs like these (usually they'll get some popup that claims it is "scanning" their system, then (surprise) it "finds" malware that only a download of their wonder program can remove), but unfortunatly fear seems to rule over reason when they see a popup, download, then visit me when their system inevitably pukes.
Oh well, I shouldn't complain. I probably wouldn't make half as much money if they actually listened to my advice ^_^.
Analyst: Prepare to Pay More (A Lot More) for Xbox Live
Posted 10/19/2009 at 12:41:48pm
Because I don't like playing on-line, it's pretty useless to me (and for the record, I am a Gold user; got the 1 year subscription cheap). I don't download movies on my 360 (even if I had a bigger HDD I wouldn't), and the only thing I really do with it is occasionally take advantage of the Gold deals (recent Pinball FX for 500 points being an example) and I like the ability to download a demo a week early (though I find it thouroghly retarded to use a promo used to sell a game to get you to subscribe to Gold).
Given the fact that Sony is charging zilch to use their service, MS would be shooting themselves in the foot if they chose to raise Gold any more than it's current $50, especially given the current economic climate.

In the videogames? No, Batman hasn't killed to my knowlege. In the comics....ah, yes he has, at least in the early days. In his debut in Detective Comics 27, he hit a guy (defending himself from the guy's attack) into a vat of acid. A few issues later (Detective 31, I think) he machine-gunned one giant (created by Dr. Hugo Strange) and hanged another from a plane by the neck. Detective 33 saw him shoot a villain in a casket.
And in Detective 38 (Robin's first appearance), he even let Robin in on the fun, by allowing the Boy Wonder to toss a guy off an unfinished high-rise. And that's just the incidents I remember (I used to be a huge comics geek back in the day...now I'm a huge computer geek ^_^).
Mind you, he didn't get to keep on his killin' ways, but his early days were pretty blood-stained...^_<
Microsoft Learns from Vista Capable Lawsuit, Ups Requirements for Windows 7 Compatibility Sticker
Posted 10/05/2009 at 01:10:59pm
Ah yes, the "Vista Capable" sticker. I remember going to a Wal-Mart shortly after Vista hit street. They had a laptop out on their promo table with Vista running, and it had that sticker on it. The thing only had 512MB RAM and it ran slow as cold molasses. Not a good promo.
I have on my workbench an EMachines I found at a local thrift (turns out it just needed the RAM replaced) that has a Sempron 2Ghz proc. It has the XP install with drivers and programs loaded onto a separate partition (thankfully; I fixed it up to sell), but sure enough, there was that "Vista Capable" sticker, even though it was not only originally designed with 512MB RAM (NVidia 6100 video built-in, but has a PCI-E slot if one wants to use it), but it can only use up to 2GB of PC3200.
Crazy stuff.
The Game Boy: Gamers' Favorite Copout
Posted 08/27/2009 at 07:54:16pm
I found the game well done, before I'd even heard about Card's name being affiliated with it. And ultimately I don't care if his name is affiliated with it, or his idiotic opinions, I will still enjoy the game just as much.
Because you see, I don't have to agree with an idiotic opinion to enjoy a game. I don't agree with illicit drug use, but I enjoy If 6 Was 9. I don't agree with Mel Gibson's drunken rant against Jews, but I enjoy Mad Max. I don't agree with Isaac Asimov's opinions on government, but he is easily my favorite SF writer.
See where I am going with this?
They have the right to their opinions, and can do what they want.
Here we are now, entertain us ^_^.
