Woman Declared "Not Depressed," Loses Benefits over Facebook Photo
Posted 11/20/2009 at 07:48:05pm
I am home, that wasn't my mother, and I don't think I was being immature at all, nor do I care what you will or will not tolerate.
Thanks, please play again.
Woman Declared "Not Depressed," Loses Benefits over Facebook Photo

Out of work for a year and a half, sucking up insurance, because you have the boo-hoos? Bullshit, take some pills, pull up your big girl pants and get back to the job. Kids today!
Blu-ray Pricing Slowly Trending Downward
Posted 11/20/2009 at 06:34:08pm
Uh, Blu-Ray IS digital. So IS DVD and CD. But, you knew that right? I think you meant, maybe, for them to go solid state? Or download only?
If so, there are problems with that idea. For one, the devices will be much more expensive and more susceptible for failure in case of solid state. For download, it has to be stored somewhere, and you have the same problem. With a disk, as long as you treat it with care and it is made out of quality materials, it will last MUCH longer.
I think the big problem is the cost of movies on blu-ray. My god, its obscene!
Stardock: Only 23% of Demigod Players Even Tried to Play Online
Posted 11/20/2009 at 06:28:31pm
I was somewhat intrigued by Demigod, so I downloaded the demo and tried it out. Lasted about 15 minutes and then it was gone. I just have zero interest in playing mutiplayer any more. Hell, the last time (other than my MMO addiction, but then I am avoiding all MMOs for that reason) I played multiplayer was in the heyday of Quake II.
For one, I am almost 38 and gaming with teens or young 20s folk, ESPECIALLY if there is any sort of chat in the game, is just too annoying. It's not that they are better or anything, I am an old school gamer. It's just that they are generally so damn infuriatingly immature. My wife plays some dumb game called "Gunz" and she is always bitching to me about what some little twit did or said, and I just get tired of even hearing about it. I also get tired of trying to decipher what it is they are even saying. "r u a n00b?" No, dipshit, I just know how to construct a coherent sentence.
Power Pack 3 to Enhance Windows Home Server on Nov 24

I'm hoping for that too, but I haven't seen mention of it so I am not holding my breath.
AOL: Raise Your Hand if You Want to Lose Your Job
Posted 11/19/2009 at 01:48:56pm
I guess it depends upon what severance package they are offering those that volunteer, vs what they will provide those that they can. Since it is a given that AOL is a rotting carcass with little chance of surviving, it might make sense to volunteer.

You know, one of these days I am going to do a web page explaining what the "right to free speech" actually is, and just post a link whenever someone who obviously has NO clue what it means refers to it. Since I haven't done that yet, I am going to help you out a little. The RIGHT to free speech only protects you in public spaces, and prevents the goverment from getting in your face about your political or religious views. The classic scenario is "cry fire" in a crowded theater and see how free your speech is. Call in a bomb threat, and see how free it is.
On a PRIVATE website, even in an area open to public access (which is still a privately owned space) you have no right to free speech. Zero. Zilch. Nada. You have exactly two rights there: the right to say what is within the owners arbitrary guidelines and the right to get the frack out. That is it.
Edit: Also, people like to use the word "right" a whole lot, apparently without giving any consideration to what that word, in this context, actually means. Your rights don't give you the right to trample upon my rights. (Say that three times fast) Your "right to free speech" do not give you the right to threaten me verbally, as an example.
Will IT Workers Remain Loyal when the Recession Ends?
Posted 11/19/2009 at 12:58:40pm
Unfortunately that has little to do with the recession and more to do with the greed of executives and shareholders that view the people that make the company actually function as little more than a disposable asset. I maintain that there IS a place in business for treating your employees like human beings instead of pens, and companies that do it right thrive because the employees recognize it and put forth their best efforts - they WANT to be there. Walmart is the poster child for treating your employees like trash, and as a result have got to have THE absolute worst employees in the world. They can't even be bothered to act like they give a damn.
Will IT Workers Remain Loyal when the Recession Ends?

Seems to me that many of those IT workers would recognize that even though there had to be some belt tightening, at least they didn't get sent packing. Plus, on a rebound, the managers should start early and let the IT staff know what they intend to give BACK. As long as I got a doggie treat for sticking around through the tough times, I would be content to stay.

Holy, crap, FINALLY some sanity in these comments. I was surprised at all the people that think that Kurt did the wrong thing, which he absolutely, indisputably, did not. Some sociopaths actually suggested physical violence in retribution. Even as a joke that is sick. The guy was an absolute dipshit and stupidity of that magitude MUST have consequences.
