Developers Wage War Against Used Game Sales

Posted 11/12/2008 at 05:42:04am

The gaming industry is starting to seem like it's replaying the music industry's greatest hits.  The "used" argument has been played out already - twice.  Once in the 80s involving cassettes and again in the 90s with CDs (probably before that with other media as well).  The music industry lost both battles (obviously). I see no difference between a used game and a used CD.  This will pass on and be forgotten just like used music.

AMD Loses Market Share as Mobile CPU Sales Outsell Desktop for the First Time

I hope they are able to mount a come back. Not only I'm a AMD fan, but without AMD, Intel would be allowed to go almost completely unchecked by competition and that only can only mean higher prices.  AMD's a strong company, though.  I have every faith they'll gain some ground in '09.

Microsoft Now Owns "Page Up" and "Page Down"

This may be a stupid question, but is their patent for the functionality of the keys itself (which doesn't seem possible considering the dozens if not hundreds of manufacturers out there) or is it for how the functionality applies to MS apps?? Is there a difference?  In my experience, the keys don't behave the same way in every application.

Google's Wireless Plans Invade Contested "White Space"

It seems that levels of potential interference would be easy enough to test, at least on a small/medium scale.  Take any number locations - half urban (for the stadium/church crowd) and half semi-rural - and open and test interference over the course of say 3-6 months.  Pretty straight forward.
