ATI Mangles the Competition: 8 Hot New Video Cards Reviewed
Posted 11/17/2009 at 02:05:06am
It may come as a suprise to you, but not everyone buys a new video card every six monts. Some people use the same card for a year or even two! I am looking for a possible upgrade myself right now. My current card has seen service in my computer for just over a year, and will see annother year of use in my wife's computer when I purchase a replacement for mine. So, as I am looking for a new card, I am looking for good performance, value, AND feature support in future titles.

I am intrigued by the possibillities. Only two problems. Why not the dual core Atom 330? Why, for the love of the digital gods, would anyone build a new machine on Core 2 with Nehalem so cheap now?!?

Dual-Screen Spacebook to Land on Earth in Time for Christmas

I play Sins of a Solar Empire on an Asus Eeepc 900HA. It runs quite well. I can see well in the main screen, but with the 600pixel vertical resolution, I cannot see the bottom of the menus. Thank goodness for tab navigation and a good memory.

This is quite an impressive development. If the bitrate is decent, even stingy folks like me may go for this one!

EA Releases Tool to Deauthorize SecurROM'd Games
Posted 04/03/2009 at 09:30:53pm
Did anyone notice that GOG.com now has 100 games? WITH NO DRM AT ALL! Yes, they are older titles (I think the newest ones are about two years old), but there are some absolutely timeless classics. $5.99 or $10.99 each is incredibly reasonable as well. It is nice to actually OWN something that I purchase....
Steam is probably #2 on my list, if only because I am not always online with my laptop.
Between these two, I shall probably never purchase another boxed game again.

Good Old Games Adds Unreal Series, Keeps Things DRM-Free

I have gotten twelve games from GOG now. With their expanding library and low price, I doubt that I will ever purchase a new release again.

Stardock Developing "I Can't Believe It's Not DRM" DRM Alternative
Posted 10/25/2008 at 06:20:20pm
To be honest, I have stopped paying attention to new game releases. So far, I have purchased 12 games from Good Old Games (www.gog.com) and plan to get several more. At $6 to $10 apeice, you can't go wrong. They have NO DRM at all. You can burn them to disk for archive, and install them on every computer you own! Most of them even run well on those little netbooks everyone has been going gaga over lately.
Leasing new games from the likes of EA? Naw. These will do me just fine.
