Company of Heroes Dev: High Specs Lead to Piracy, But PC Gaming's "Death" Laughable
Posted 11/06/2008 at 09:08:32pm
First off, companies need to understand that all PC games are not rich and can't afford to upgrade every year. That being said, I did purchase a new Quadcore system earlier this year with plenty of muscle to last a few years.
Secondly, companies complain if a game sells poorly, but look at how terribly controls are often implemented. I bought Dead Space when it came out. and the controls are terrible. $50 bucks down the tubes. I will have to say one thing about games systems. You can rent games for them so you don't get burned if you don't care for the game. It would be nice to be able to walk into a shop and rent a PC game as well.
The only way to keep from being burned on a game, I will sometimes download a pirate version of a game first just to make sure the game is something I want to actaully play and the controls don't suck. If it is, I will buy the game and support the dev. If not, I uninstall the game and it's game over. Certain games I have pre-ordered such as Left For Dead and Call of Duty: World at War.
Chinese Pirates Angry Over Microsoft’s Blackout Anti-Piracy Tool

I have 2 computers and 2 original copies of XP. It's a shame that so many people resort to piracy for their operating systems. If you can't afford an OS, maybe you can't afford a PC either!!
SecuROM DRM Reaches Space Phase, Decides to Conquer Far Cry 2

Personally, I hate DRM but it has become something I have grown accostumed to. My problem lies when DRM screws a game up to where it is unplayable. I bought Bioshock when it first came out, installed it and had problems after playing about 15 minutes or so. It kept crashing to the desktop. I contacted 2K games who offered no working solutions. Finally in frustration, I searched for and downloadad a 'crack' for the game. Low and behold, I was able to play the game past that point and finish the game with no further problems. If DRM doesn't affect gameplay, I have no problems at all with it as the companies are just trying to protect their property.

Nintendo Announces New DS with Camera and Media Functionality

The price seems a bit steep when compared to a current generation DS ($129.00) for what little Nintendo is adding. The ' biggest addition', the digital camera is a waste of space.

It's still an Acer. Friend of mine has an Acer and it's a hunk of junk, and their 'tech support' is a joke!!
W-A-S-D: DRM Or No Game At All? Pick Your Poison
Posted 09/30/2008 at 01:11:01am
It really sucks when you see more and more companies opting out of the PC market due to piracy. I bought a PC due the the fact that piracy killed the software market on the Atari ST and now it looks as though the same thing may happen to the PC. Plus, I recently upgraded to a higher end PC for playing any new game coming down the pike. Perhaps I should have stuck with my old system now.
Mythic co-founder "Hates Gold Sellers With Every Fiber of His Being," Plans to Crush Them in Hilarious Ways

I have to say that I agree with Keith E. Whisman's comments. I hate the fact that people cheat at online games and refuse to play most of them. I am hooked on Guild Wars and am sure some people cheat at that, but at least there is no monthly fee involved. I would much rather pay for add on's to a game rather than 10 dollars a month. After paying say 50 bucks for a game, why should I pay $120 dollars per year to play?? Just charge for the add ons and if I want to play those, I will buy them.
