Habey's BIS-6620: Tiny Computer with Plenty of Connectivity, No OS

Posted 02/24/2010 at 09:40:28pm

There is two models for the BIS-6620, the I model and the II model.  The only difference I can see is that for the BIS-6620-I you get VGA, 2 USB ports, and 1 S-Video port. For the BIS-6620-II you get to pay $20 more and you get DVI and a 4x COMM port, other than that it's the exact same specs.

FCC Feels Need for Speed(ier Broadband)

Posted 02/18/2010 at 03:04:04pm

If you actually saw actually finanical reports from Comcast, Qwest, and etc you would see that they make Millions if not Billions of dollars in net income profit a year by affording the least amount of service for the most of cost, like an monopoly should, because if a city, state, or federal government tries to offer their residents a cheaper alternatives or tries to keep them from throttling people, they cry foul and throw millions of dollars to lobbying public officials and into advertising trying to mis-inform the general public into killing anything that will hurt their bottom line. They can't afford the infrastructure, how come Comcast just spent 5.8 billion dollars to buy Universial and NBC and had a Net Income of $3.638 billion in 2009?

Qwest can't afford anything because it's run by morons who are running a system that was a holdover from the "landline is a must and the only option" era in the age of supposed "High Speed" internet.

Here's an excerpt from a marketwatch article on Qwest's buggling managment.

"Qwest has been losing local subscribers for years to cable rivals or alternative technologies such as wireless. Total phone lines, including business and wholesale, fell 11.2% to 10.27 million from 11.57 million a year earlier. As a result, revenue in Qwest's "mass markets" division sank 13% to $1.2 billion.

Yet Qwest also said it recorded its lowest quarterly decline in two years in the consumer market.

What's helping Qwest to retain subscribers are new fiber connections that deliver much faster Internet speeds. Qwest ended the year with 420,000 fiber-Internet accounts, which represents 14% of its broadband customer base of 2.97 million. The company gained 23,000 net broadband subscribers in the fourth quarter.

The rest of Qwest's Internet customers subscribe to slower and cheaper DSL service, but the company hopes to shift more of them into higher-priced fiber plans. Fiber customers are also less likely switch to rival Internet providers.

"We're being very aggressive," Chief Operating Officer Teresa Taylor said in an interview with MarketWatch."

Ironic and funny how their whining about having to offer 100mb connections, but offering faster speeds is the only thing keeping them from going under because they can charge an arm and leg for it. Net Income profit was 10 million dollars for 2009 as stated on their own website.

All of this, shows us that people are not satisfied with the current speeds being offered and touted as "As fast as we can go without breaking the bank" and are willing to pay for it if given the option, even at an very expensive price point.

Windows 7 RTM Cracked Already

Posted 07/30/2009 at 01:27:20am

You're assuming Microsoft can code it right, the 1st time, for all possible configurations and events and make it work 100% of the time, like it was intented too, obviously you haven't use Windows before, else you won't of even thought of such an idea. Let alone, the fact that you're probably not a IT personnel in charge of part or the whole of a company's PC systems else that idiotic thought would of also never of crossed your mind of "some people wont mind the occasional reinstall". Let me try to put in a way you can understand, when your internet connection dies and you have time sensitive documents that you need to send off by email or a conference call online to attend or you were pwning newbs on Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare and heading towards a record when suddenly you got disconnected and when you call your ISP after the the connection not returning after a few hours and they tell you "some people wont mind the occasional internet outage"I bet it would be so ironic wouldnt it.

Windows 7 RTM Cracked Already

Posted 07/30/2009 at 01:14:33am

Reasons why what you proposed is a suicide attack and will likely kill Microsoft and Windows somewhere down the road.

1. If the crackers are smart enough to crack the DRM on the Windows O/S, what makes you think they can't find your little surprise before it goes off and then repurpose it to take down or hijack a multi-national conglomerate Windows 7 based pcs and use it to do 4chan level shenanigans, like the recent AT&T vs 4chan conflict.

2. Even if Microsoft was wasted and high enough on marihuana to do what you sugguested, they'd probably get sued faster than they can get to white castle.

3. That's why the people running Microsoft are running Microsoft  and you're here posting on Maximumpc.com about how to run Microsoft.

Will Search Engines Become The Next Pirate Bay?

Posted 04/22/2009 at 11:57:12pm

Never make a matyr out of anyone if you can help, it only makes things worst, oh oh someone just started the church of the pirate bay. It Doesn't matter that China is the biggest pirate in the world, no one is gonna say "where's my money from all those pirated products u stole from me" to China because they own you, your house, your car, and your country so u better not piss them off, they've got an itchy trigger finger. It's ironic that people will spend millions of dollars to stop a group of people running a site called the pirate bay, but won't do anything about the real pirate bay in east Africa.

Comcast Hatches Another Plan to Manage Heavy Users

Posted 08/21/2008 at 03:55:17pm

Right after the whole comcast got caught throttling case came out, I suddenly started to loss sync with the comcast side of my comcast hsci, around "congested" times of the day. I'm sitting there humming along, online gaming, surfing, whatever, then wham, I just lost my connection with comcast's local CO, my modem resynchronizes sometimes on it's own, but mostly I have to power cycle or unplug the cable line for a sec and replug it in and it's gold again, until I get "managed" again, and I repeat. I've noticed that I usually get very low ping times, under 50ms until "Randomly" my ping just jumps up into the 300ms range around the congested times of the day and that's when I lost my connection, I shared it with a few people so I guess we are in the "heavy" usage range. I've had those typical comcast outages, you know those outages due to unannounced "network maintenance" that even the customer rep's seem to know nothing about, until a few days later, when it's included in the robotic thank you for calling comcast here's what's going on in your area message as you dial in to their 1-800 number after entering your information. The main reason I think it's their new scheme, is that, my area has never been congested, never experienced a slow down, hell I get 20mb down and 1.1mb up at most of the times, so I guess I use too much of the supposed high speed 24/7 Internet I'm paying for for their comfort so now I'm getting "managed" now.
