Windows 7 Review: XP vs Vista vs 7 in 80+ Benchmarks
Posted 08/15/2009 at 10:48:36pm
Supposedly, Win7 intorudes TRIM functionality in SSDs. Any chance of a look at a performance compare with/without TRIM? Not sure how much of a difference it makes, with OCZ, etc. including utilities that offer some of that functionality...
Freeware Files: Five Instant Messaging Apps (that are better than AIM)
Posted 07/28/2009 at 01:37:30am
My wife has lots of QQ contacts from China. Can install the QQ software here, but it is atrocious. As Mr. Murphy points out, Pidgin has QQ support, but they do not support it, in that it does not actually work. you can add contacts, and they can send messages to you, but it comes across as junk. Last time we tried anyway.
Anyone know if any of the other chat software supports QQ accounts (in a way that works)?
Good News, Everyone! Study Finds The Internet Makes You Smarter
Posted 06/13/2009 at 10:03:10pm
It must be almost difficult to find a fair number of people who almost never use the internet these days. It is likely that there are a lot more differences between these two groups than internet usage. Therefore, this study tells us little to nothing. Intel Predicts Ultra-Thin Notebooks Will Cannibalize Netbook Sales with Rapidly Falling Prices
Posted 05/31/2009 at 09:10:22pm
I would think that regular notebooks would decrease before ultra thins would.
It is true that they are all decreasing in price. still, half the appeal of netbooks is the size. I suspect the different types portables will blend eventually. ultra thins will get cheaper, and netbooks will get more powerful. When 10" netbooks offer 720p screens, dual core processors, and respectable graphics, they will be very compelling again. Granted, when all that is available, they will likely push $500, but will eventually drop again. I suspect netbooks will remain compelling just for the size.
Church of Scientology Banned From Wikipedia

If you actually read the post, he is criticizing COS for not being scientific, therefore clearly not against science.
The COS, styling itself as a superior alternative to psychology, is hopelessly ignorant here. They call psych a 'pseudo-science' which is a gross oversimplification. There are dozens of scholarly journals, thousands of published scientific studies about the many branches of psychology. Scientology is completely secretive about how its own process 'works.' If they are scientific, they can publish studies of what they do, showing its supposed effectiveness and opening it up to scrutiny by others. This is a requirement of any science.
