Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB
Posted 07/07/2009 at 06:01:58pm
Couldn't you guys post a comparison between the Barracuda 7200.12 and the Velociraptor. I can look at the Velociraptor review from June 2008 as erolsipar did, but the applications used to test each are different (don't know HOW different, but still) plus the PC used to run each test is different. It would be nice to get a more apples to apples comparison to decide if it's really worth the HUGE price/storage difference. Thanks.

I second docb77's request about the Creative Vado HD. What gives!? You guys put THAT on your "The List", but have no review posted for it?
Duke Nukem Forever Reaches Development Milestone
Posted 04/16/2009 at 05:52:02am
We've heard this same crap before over and over. Don't believe ANYthing and don't buy into the hype. Until I see it....I won't believe it. It's been over 13 years since the first one came out with promise of a sequel for more than 10 years.
Here's the reality: Duke Nukem Forever is "DNF", right? DNF really stands for "Did Not Finish". While I'd like to see it, I'm not holding my breath (anymore).
Circuit City is No More
Posted 03/10/2009 at 11:53:14am
I agree that Circuit City won't be missed, but like any other place if you read the weekly sale flyer, you can find a good deal now and then. I've bought many things from CC, but only when it was in the sale ad and it was at least comparable to Amazon/Buy.com, etc. It's not like Best Buy is now magically going to jack up their prices because they'll have no competition.
As for the post about Fry's and Microcenter, I know Californians are more fortunate, but only in the LA and San Jose areas really. Plus, there are Fry's and Microcenters all over the US now (in select major metro areas). They are both wonderful stores, but I have to say the same rules apply. Do the research and know the prices before you go. Even something in the sale ad could be overpriced. I've seen MANY things in the daily Fry's ad that were regular price. They just put it in the ad to call your attention to it.
The Beginner's Guide to Linux, Part 2: Installation
Posted 03/04/2009 at 12:06:17pm
I've been working with Linux for nearly 15 years and various flavors of commercial unix as well. The progress that has been made toward a "desktop" Linux just amazes me. You can get all these VERY powerful applications and the OS itself absolutely free. How can you beat that!?
Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you for sharing this with your readers. People need to be informed and shown the step by step instructions to try it for themselves. People usually love it once they try it. You're doing your part to help bridge the gap. Keep them coming! Oh, and keep redoing them regularly like you have been since things change so quickly. That helps a lot.
Great job!
Happy Square Root Day, Math Geeks!

That's actually how it does happen, no? Editors....edit.
While I won't argue that grammar is a pet peeve of mine, I know the timeline of getting this work done. I'm just poking fun a bit. I make mistakes ALL the time myself. You guys all do great work and I've been a subscriber of this magazine forever. Keep up the good work.

One of the most basic grammar rules and yet everyone seems to miss it. Surely you have spell check there at Maximum PC? Will?
Interesting story though....the geek in me can't help but say "huh...cool". Another cool day coming this year is 07/08/09 and that will only happen every year until 12/13/14.
Oh yeah and you spelled "about" wrong with "abou"....seriously....spell check? ;)
How To: Recover Your Lost Windows User Account Password

I have used the XP version of Ophcrack on Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2003 Server and XP. It is fast and will scare you how well it works.
Left 4 Dead

So I finally played the level at the airport and waited to see that "747" crash in front of me. I don't know what kind of plane crashed, but it was NOT a 747. A 747 has 4 engines....the plane in the game only had 2 engines.....unless of course the AI Director is changing that each time as well?
Great review, nonetheless Norman. Love the game. Thanks!
