Microsoft Takes Aim at Apple with Zune Price Cuts, Software Push
Posted 11/21/2008 at 07:10:17am
I'll come right out and say it I own one of the poo bricks (30gb brown Zune) and love it. My wife (then fiance) got it for me when I graduated, which was when they originally came out. Since then I have enjoyed several significant software upgrades and haven't felt a bit obsolete with new players hitting the market. Maybe that could be seen as a bad thing, but I think of it differently. I use my Zune daily and haven't had any issues with the unit breaking and love the wireless features. I have a speaker/dock in my living room that I set the Zune on when I get home from work and it immediately starts syncing with my PC, removing old podcasts putting on new, updating music, photos, etc. Love it.

Unfortunate that it will only be supported on their 4xxx series cards and beyond. Makes my HD3870 sad and lonely.
Google Comments on Why Everything is Always in Beta
Posted 10/05/2008 at 11:24:58pm
Personally I'd much rather see Google roll out with versions to their web apps. It is much easier to tell the different between a few tweaks here and there to a massive update roll out when version numbers change. Beta in the sense they are using it is ambiguous and not very specific. If you are going to butcher terms, at least make something up. Anyone seeing Gmail go into a Gamma phase?
Open Office 3.0 Nearing Launch – Beta Available For Download
Posted 10/05/2008 at 09:56:49pm
I've been using OpenOffice exlusively on my home computers for many months now, having uninstalled Microsoft Office. I am still forced to use Microsoft Office at work due to corporate policy (and locked down machines) but I frequently take my own personal laptop on travel to do work and OOO is what comes up when I launch documents. Great piece of software and all my friends that I recommend it to have loved it as well. I will wait for the full release of version 3, but I'm eagerly anticipating it in the meantime!
Budget Badass Buyer’s Guide -- Updated Prices and Parts For October 2008

Good picks, but it always blows my mind when some people say budget and roll off with $1500 machine. My idea of budget is under a grand, but still capable of creating pleasurable experiences. Oh well, good stuff.
Nvidia to Rebrand GeForce Series

Didn't nVidia just try renaming their product lines? And they honestly don't help themselves, with things like the GTX 260 Core 216 as apposed to the GTX 260. I consider myself to keep up pretty regularly with upcoming PC tech and the nVidia lineup confuses the heck out of me. Hopefully they stick to this one.
Zune Deserves Some Props for it's New Approach
Posted 09/09/2008 at 10:56:58pm
I have to agree with this completely. I love my Zune, had the gen 1 ever since it came out when my wife (fiance at the time) bought one for me. I even love it despite the brown color...
but the Microsoft Point system always gets me. I've stopped buying songs through the Zune Marketplace because of this fact, and I really think it is hurting Microsoft. Maybe it is some sort of catchy thing on the XBox 360, but this isn't an XBox 360 and in the world of the PC people have options. Amazon Downloads is my store of choice, but I could easily be swayed by the Zune Marketplace convenience if they would just make it convenient.
Western Digital Velociraptor

This drive is pretty sexy I have to admit. I am still running the original 36gb Raptor (ouch) and my urge to upgrade to this rediculiously fast piece of tech is going to get me in trouble with the wife. Oh, and someone must be watching movies with their kids, Land Before Time pro/con reference?

I've always hated the "xxx for Dummies" and "Idiots guide to xxx". I think they are terrible books that are typically poorly written and of little value. If you stop focusing on the fact that you are an idiot/moron you can really accomplish a whole lot more. (Insert casual game style here) for Dummies? Try Yahoo, that's as dummy as you need to get.
Dell May Challenge the iPod, Zune
Posted 08/01/2008 at 07:45:23am
Friend of mine from college LOVED his DJ, and if the price is right it sure makes it hard to argue against it. The best thing Dell could do is make it as user friendly as possible. Things like being able to access it like a portable drive, drag and drop, play lists on the fly, stuff like that is more important than most portable music player companies think.
