Stealth Computer Releases Waterproof PC

Seems like a terribly expensive product whose only claim to fame is that it is so rugged, but as soon as you loose one of those pretty little silver caps your screwed unless you keep the wires plugged in all the time.

Second Opinion: DVR Video over FireWire

ExDeus You are the man!!!!! (or woman if the case applies as I am unsure of your sex but either way you rock!) I have been searching for this mandate for awhile and coming up empty handed. I currently have a fight brewing with Comcast who refuse to supply me with a unlocked firewire HD STB.

Think HD-DVD is Going to Make a Comeback? Now There's an HTPC for You

Posted 03/16/2009 at 06:41:55pm

This thing is way over-powered for what it is supposed to have been designed for. A HTPC should be low power which means less heat, which in turn leads to less cooling so it will not be so loud as to interfere with your movie watching. I use a power sipping AMD 4850E in the HTPC I built. With it's 45w power draw, a quality Zaleman cooler, and video and sound fed from the HDMI adapter on a ATI Radeon HD 4650 also with a fanless Zaleman heatsink, my box is whisper quiet. And it has a LG GBW-H20L so it can play Blu-Ray and HD-DVD.

Asus's Eee Keyboard is Real, and Starts at Just $400

Posted 03/04/2009 at 12:11:14pm

I just built a HTPC to watch/listen to  BD, DVD, CD, and MP3 on my 52" Samsung LCD for about $600. Currently it sports 1 500 gig hdd but as I store more HD content I will increase this. My HTPC uses a wireless keyboard and mouse, and sits hidden behind my TV stand. I can see no benefit to such a product as this. Oh and contrary to popular belief my HTPC is whisper quiet due to carefully choosing the proc, proc cooler, and fanless video card that supports HDMI for full 1080P.

Circuit City’s Swan Song: A Massive Liquidation Sale

Posted 01/19/2009 at 09:05:56pm

I promised myself three years ago to never do anymore business with Circuit City after they charged me a restocking fee on an item without telling me before hand. Sure there was a sign when you walked in the store about the policy, but that sign was behind me when I walked in, sure there was a notice on the back of the reciept, but when does one get a reciept? After they make the purchase, thats when. In any event I went tonight to check out the "bargains" to be had, and was less than impressed with what I saw, for instance a wireless N router selling for $150 - 10%= $135 but when I went to the Best Buy about 3 blocks away this same router's regular price there was $119.  Like a previous poster said, all the good stuff will be gone by the time the mark-downs amount to really good deals from people being fooled into thinking they are getting a deal because there is a red sticker with a price written with a sharpie on the package. I am happy to report that I did not break my threee year old promise to myself and walked out empty handed.
