Microsoft Could Lose up to 8.5 Billion in “Vista Capable” Lawsuit

Posted 01/25/2009 at 01:35:44pm

I like WindowsXP as much as the next geek. But the reality is drivers, or the lack of capable ones, has the large majority of the blame on Vista's horrid launch. If it weren't for such bad driver support, in large part due to Microsoft taking so long to provide Dev's with the needed tools to write them, Vista would have launched just like XP did. Thousands of people whining about how they are going to keep using Win2KPro for life.

Ever since the drivers started being properly written, and a couple of Pre-SP1 updates, Vista has been smooth as silk. After SP1 came out, everyone in the business has to shut the hell up about Vista. To keep going on about it now is pointless. It has been proven all over the major review sites that Vista is currently performing at about the same level as XP. Now if people want to keep on complaining about not being able to run Vista on five year old hardware, we will never get to the next level of OS evolution because MS and others will be too afraid to push the envelope of OS development. If you can't afford the newer hardware, then don't buy the damned OS.

Build the Ultimate USB Thumb Drive Toolbox

Posted 01/22/2009 at 07:18:39am

Some very good info here in this article! Sure to bring in some traffic for the site. The only thing I would add to this is an additional 1GB USB key. They are cheap enough to use instead of CD's now a days and I have one key dedicated as an Ultimate Boot CD, http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/

Put the .iso on the USB key and roll without a scratcheable CD to worry over. You can also use this on site to make a CD in case you have a puter that won't boot from USB.

Antivirus Firms Release Windows 7 Software Previews to Combat Microsoft's Free Offering

Posted 01/21/2009 at 11:01:36am

Microsoft has fought many legal battles centered around including Internet Explorer in their OS package. They don't want another anti-trust fight on their hands over antivirus software and believe me, Micrososft would lose that one quickly. Plus, I don't want MS putting a damned thing more in to their OS than what is absolutely needed to run the thing. Their tack of making components a download vs. included in the main install is one of the better decisions they've made recently. Now if we could just get them to offer two or three flavors of Windows 7 and not do the Vista BS, I'd feel like MS were actually listening to us.

Core i7 Dissected and Benchmarked! Does Intel’s Next-Generation Chip Live Up to the Hype? Hell Yeah!

Posted 11/12/2008 at 05:48:39pm

Wow. I haven't seen this many pissed off AMD fanboi's posting a bunch of bitchy, whiny crap since C2D came out. But I guess Intel copied that off of the so hugely successful AMD right?

ROFLMAO!

SecuROM DRM Reaches Space Phase, Decides to Conquer Far Cry 2

Posted 10/26/2008 at 10:45:27am

Unless SecuRom has changed since Bioshock, it installs without your consent or knoweledge unless you actually read the box or know about it before hand. You cannot uninstall SecuRom. Even if you uninstall the game, SecuRom is still on your computer.

I'm not opposed to a working, unintrusive DRM scheme. But SecuRom simply isn't it. I will back up my complaints with my wallet. I will not buy a game with this crapware included in it.

If I get to wanting to play it too badly, I may buy the game and then download a crack for it. I won't outright steal the game, but I don't want SecuRom on my friggin computer.

When you have folks like me considering cracks or using a totally seperate HDD to install the game to protect your personal info on your main drive from potentially damaging crapware, you've scored an ultimate fail.

AMD on the Rise, but is the Company Poised to Fall?

Posted 04/20/2007 at 08:11:04am

I've been an AMD fanboi, Oh look! another boy with an "i" in it!, since pre-Thunderbird. AMD has always been a CPU manufacturer that appealed to the "underdog" favorer in me. However, my main rig runs a C2D chip for good reason. Intel is brining more to the performance table than AMD is. With Intel's eyes now seemingly glued open to the ways of the underdog, they could very well squash AMD back into 15th place if AMD doesn't get off their ass and start pumping out an architecture worth buying. Will Barcelona be the Holy Grail for AMD? Maybe. But if AMD thinks for one second that a single Quad-Core CPU is going to pull their silicon out of the fire before it melts, they've got some hard truths ahead of them. Intel's financial and researching capabilities have been levered against AMD. And this time, it's a lever being effectively applied. Great write up Paul. Very thought provoking and timely.
