AMD Expects to Claw Back 15% of Notebook Market Share
Posted 06/25/2009 at 09:32:36pm
I believe AMD was a bit late in updating its mobile line to 45nm. They the problem with Tigris coming out in September is that Nehalem(Arrandale) will show up only 1-3 months later and kick some serious ass over in that place, and AMD has nothing to counter it with. It's similar to what's happening over at the server front, where AMD enjoyed a few months of success there with its 45nm Opterons, until Nehalem showed up. AMD really should've gotten 45nm out to notebooks way sooner, as the current Turions suck compared to Core 2s.

Maingear Makes First GeForce-Upgradeable Ion PC
Posted 06/05/2009 at 02:01:02pm
Wait how is this Ion? Ion implies it uses an Atom or Via Nano and a Geforce9300/9400M chipset. This uses a Core 2 Duo/Quad and a 9300M chipset, which is just that, not an Ion. The 9300M/9400 for use with Core 2s has been around for quite a while.
E.g. Apple sells computers with 9400M chipsets and Core 2s but no one considers it an Ion.
Also I would agree this is greenwashing. Seriously, for whatever extra you're paying for something like this over a standard gaming PC you might as well donate the money to some tree-planting organization or something that'll do much more of an effect.
NEC Announces Ultra-Light, Fairly Thin Type VS Notebook
Posted 05/26/2009 at 06:57:12pm
Why would anyone pay $1850 for what's essentially a glorified netbook(maybe except for the SSD). You can get a lower end Lenovo X300 for slightly less that comes with a C2D and 2GB of RAM for around the same price.

Revised TPower X58A Motherboard Now Available, Biostar Makes Quirky Pitch for Core i7 Platform

The color shceme on Biostar's higher end mobos are awesome.
But if I ever was to build an i7 system I would go for the vanilla P6T or a Gigabyte for the same price instead of this.
