The Business Card is Personal Again with Augmented Reality (à la Star Wars)
Posted 07/25/2009 at 09:32:41pm
Yea, I misunderstood. Thanks for straightening me out.
I took the video at face value and didn't bother to check into the nuts and bolts of how it's done.
Kinda misleading to say that the business card has made an advance it technology. Sounds like it takes special software that recognizes a pattern on the card along with an Internet connection to get the video. It's not a stand alone business card that you can give to just anybody.
The Business Card is Personal Again with Augmented Reality (à la Star Wars)

The image seems like it's the result of POST-processing on the video. The image is too sharp, too defined. Remember how whispy and ethereal the image was in Star Wars. That's MUCH more realistic. How can a business card display such an image?
I'm thinking that this is some kind of viral marketing campaign.
Mozilla Patches TraceMonkey Exploit with Firefox 3.5.1
Posted 07/21/2009 at 02:21:14am
I've seen more crashes in Firefox 3.5.1 than I've ever seen. I installed it on my regular PC and a laptop I'm building for a friend. Both installs crashed. The laptop crashed so hard I couldn't even open Firefox into safe mode. Both installs were on relatively new installations of Win XP.
I went back to 3.0.11

How-To: Boost Your Web Browsing Performance Like an IT Pro Using DNS
Posted 05/09/2009 at 12:45:58am
The DNS benchmarking tool made by Gibson Research Corporation mentioned above is working now. I suggest using it to test your connection.
I use Quest DSL. It tested out to be by far the fastest.
In order to properly test the Quest DNS server I had to enter the IP addresses manually. If you're using a router you will find your actual DNS server there. It should be found under Connection Status.
I entered both the primary and the secondary DNS into the benchmark tool. both of them tested out to be the fastest out of any servers that the tool tests.
I also discovered something. By default Windows is set to automatically obtain a DNS. It picks the router. The router also gets it's DNS automatically. It should look to your ISPs DNS server. This means that every request must be processed by the router. If I cut out the router and enter the Quest DNS servers into Windows manually then I seem to get faster page loads.
The DNS Benchmark showed my router IP as 192.168.0.1. It's marked by a solid gold dot and it's named Home. If your router shows up as being slower than your ISPs DNS servers then you should benifit by entering the IPs for the DNS manually as well.
