No BS PodcastListener question re entering BIOS during fast start up on
No BS Podcast #119: Graphics Fermi and For You

Posted 10/06/2009 at 09:48:52pm

Woo, my question made it on the podcast and now I'm a star!

... ._.

The audio was a garbled and I misspoke a little (I was nervous and those fuckers at the stop light keep using the u-turn lane as a left turn lane and I was distracted with rage). Rehash:

Problem: Can't enter BIOS because startup screens don't appear for more than 0.5 secs before the Windows starts.

Possibly Pertinent Information:

  • OS = XP64
  • CPU = Intel Wolfdale Core 2 Duo E8400
  • MOBO = EVGA nForce 750i SLI
  • GPU = nVidia GeForce 9800 GTX+
Solution during startup:
  1. Mash buttons fast - FAIL
  2. Mash buttons real fast - FAIL
  3. Hold down F2 - FAIL
  4. Mash Pause and Spacebar real fast one after the other to see which keystroke corresponds to entering BIOS - SUCCESS (answer = Alt + F2)
  5. Hold down Alt + F2 - SUCCESS
I love you Maximum PC.

p.s. - Do the email question audio formats have to be mp3 or will m4a work, too?

To the listener with the XP 64-bit / iTunes / iPhone problems:

You are not totally boned. You can get iTunes to work properly by editing the install files with Orca. You can find some concise instructions at the following link:

http://yukichigai.googlepages.com/iphonex64

Some of the screenshots are broken, but the process is the same for just about any version of iTunes. You should be able to manage your music with no problems.

Careful, though... if you're looking to upgrade your iPhone firmware to 3.0, then you should probably use a computer that runs iTunes properly (e.g., a 32-bit system). I had some show-stopping errors trying to upgrade my iPhone's firmware with my jankity iTunes install.
