You mean the Deskstars that are now made by Hitachi, right?

Time Warner Working to Shut Down Local Providers of Affordable Broadband

Seems it's not just TW and North Carolina.

I live in MA. My city-owned electric utility put fiber up on every single pole in town, planning for fiber optic internet, telephone, television service at dirt-cheap prices. This was ten years ago(!), and the minute they were ready to throw the switch, Comcast b*tched about it, and everything screeched to a halt. The result is that the electric company's sole offering is $20/month dialup accounts!

Who the h*ll still pays $20/month for dialup?

"... Microsoft will stop support for Vista in April 2012."

Yet support for XP will stop in April 2014!

Finally: M$ admits that Vista was nothing more than a boxed beta.

Amen! I have VZ 3.0Mb DSL for $20/month for life and it was put in print that when bottlenecks occur, Verizon doesn't impose limits; they fix their network!

The only problem now is if VZ will stay in business, thanks to all the stock market volatility. Otherwise it's back to dialup for me... I can't afford Comcast's $52/month robbery!

Eulogy for Yahoo Mash

Posted 09/03/2008 at 11:04:18pm

Mixd? WTH is/was "Mixd"? The social networking site that Yahoo has had since 2005 has been called "Yahoo! 360", and has never been out of beta in all that time. Approximately 2,000,000 users, too, but a drop in the bucket compared to Facebook and MySpace. Yahoo is supposedly going to combine the remnants of the no-longer-supported-but-still-used-by-diehards 360 and a new "Universal Profile System" that was supposed to have been ready in February 2008.

We're still waiting for it to come into being, but the recent unpleasantness between Yahoo and Microsoft may have had something to do with the delay...
