I find this funny that they are just now disabling access to thumb drives and burners. My wife and mother-in-law both work for a major health care company, and they both have company issue laptops. They order them sans optical drives and all usb ports are disabled so you cannot use a thumb drive, ext. HDD, or usb burner. They have been this way for years, nice to see the military finally catching up to the private sector.
How To: Slipstream Windows XP SP3 and Vista SP1
Posted 11/10/2008 at 02:05:00am
I saw that there was a lot of talk about slipstreaming SP3 into a SP0 disk. Well I just did it a few minutes ago, and installed the system with it, and it works flawless.
Also in about how to do the old school slipstream, you download the service pack, copy the contents of a XP CD to a folder, ie X:\XP-CD, and to to run type: "X:\WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe -x"
That will extract all the files, it should prompt you to create a directory.
Then open command prompt and type and make your way to the location of the above extracted file then type:
"WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe /integrate:X:\XP-CD"
where X:\XP-CD is the location you copied the contents of your cd to.

If you own the upgrade or retail versions of the software you are allowed based on the EULA to install it on what ever machine you are currently going to use. If you get the OEM software you are supposed to install it on a machine and that machine only, if you go by the EULA. With the OEM, it is licensed for that computer, but it used to be very vague as to what was considered still that same machine, I have rebuilt my moms machine a few times, over now, but used the same optical, case, and harddrive, what has changed was the mobo/cpu, I think in that case you are supposed to buy a new copy, but the online activation of XP went through with out a hiccup so who knows.
Mouse/Keyboard Concept is One of the Stupidest Ideas We've Ever Seen

Why not just put an eraser tip in the middle of the damn thing like they do on laptops or even a touch pad built into the board near the space bar, at least that makes sense. The last thing I want to do when typing is move the entire keyboard around to make my cursor move anyways.

You guys never enven mentioned the Snap-on electric screw driver model CTS561. Evey tech at my work has one of these, and they are the greatest. Allows one handed operation, and they are low torque so you dont strip the heads off. Plus with the battery pack at 90* to the head, they can get into the tightest of places.

The drive that you have there is a different model. The other drive has since be deactivated by newegg. Its a shame too, I have a small notebook that I use for work, and was looking to install one of those in it, it gets bumped around a lot riding in my service truck.
