Left 4 Dead 2
Posted 11/17/2009 at 01:04:11am
You said the engine's 10 years old, but the first Source game was CSS. Sure, it was based on Quake (or maybe Unreal, but I'm pretty sure it was an iD engine), so in THAT case it's 10 years, but you can't really knock it down. The real problem is that it was originally intended to run on pretty much any (discrete) videocard you had, while being able to scale to the big-boy computers. But that was 5 years ago, and there's only so much HDR and anti-aliasing you can throw into a game.
But to be honest, I'm using a relatively small screen, so TF2, L4D, HL2E2, etc all look just as good as other newer games.
Here's hoping to Source 2 or whatever it is.
Oh, and regarding the gameplay, is it still just the standard tier one and tier two, or did they add in-between guns?
Blizzard Presentation Says Diablo III’s Not Coming in 2010
Posted 11/14/2009 at 01:52:06am
With a game like Torchlight already out for only $20, the Torchlight online game in development, and the Fate series going strong, people in 2011+ are not going to get any joy out of playing a game that pretty much brings nothing new to the series.
Not to mention, games like Dragon Age, The Witcher, Fallout 3, Borderlands and Fable are all replacing the RPGs of old with modern hybrids that just spoon feed the player.
Rumor: Mass Effect 2 to Receive Massive Amounts of DLC
Posted 11/03/2009 at 02:28:35am
Don't get me wrong, I loved it too. Just only on the first playthrough. The gameplay and story were great. I was just pissed that if you wanted to play the game with different choices, and experience the new story content (well, the same stuff from a different point of view, but still interesting) you have to just sit through the same combat you already played once before. If the combat were tweaked, or at least made so that there are actual unique styles of play other than "shoot enemies dead. fast" then playing through a second time, or at least long enough to enjoy the DLC, then I might actually get it.
Rumor: Mass Effect 2 to Receive Massive Amounts of DLC
Posted 11/03/2009 at 12:16:34am
I just hope they give it more replay value. In KotOR you would recieve completely new powers, weapons, characters and a different story and mission set depending on your "good vs evil" choices. In Mass Effect, they sadly didn't have it. It was pretty much the same game the second time through (not that I went more than an hour into it that second time). In ME, you pretty much only had two options: tank out and use guns, or wimp out and use guns+powers. And the good vs. evil didn't really give you any tangible differences. You didn't get some sick skills, you didn't recieve unique powers. NOTHING. In most of the "do you steal this or give it back" scenarios, the objects were pure crap, and all the "do you kill this person or spare them" parts had no real difference between the outcomes aside from getting a trivial amount of money.
Anyway, in essence, I just hope this thing has some gameplay differences depending on your actions, or else no one will buy the DLC since it's the same stuff over and over.
Acer Takes the Top Spot for Most Valuable Taiwan Brand in 2009

Want Want? Master Kong? Those guys do know there are over 600,000 words in the English language. Can't they choose a name that makes sense? High Tech Computer sounds a lot more legit to a common-person than does "Want Want Group"
College Students Picking on the Kindle DX

The DX only saves you money if all your textbooks are available, and you were originally buying new books. I buy mega-used books that carry hefty discounts.
Is Windows 7 Going to Boost Mac Sales?

Maybe they buy a Mac to run boot camp, while still fitting in with their "cool" co-workers.
Researchers Claim Phishing is on the Decline, but is Being Replaced by Key Loggers

I use WinPatrol, and it's supposed to protect from keylogging, so I hope it works.
And if I had a hotmail account, my password would be much more complex than 123456. QWERTY is the way to go!
ATI HD Radeon 5870: The Fastest Videocard Ever (PS It's $380)

I would totally buy the 5850 if (and when) it gets to around $100. The only issue I have with these is that my PC only has a single-slot wide opening on the back, so these super thick cards that vent out the back are a no-go for me.
SUPERAntiSpyware Slices and Dices Malware with Online Safe Scan

I still refuse to install any software that forces you to watch a splash-screen, so the SASW main software is a no-go for me, but this online version looks handy for thumb-drive software.
