Windows 7 Retail Boxes Start Arriving in Preparation for Launch Day
Posted 10/04/2009 at 05:56:00pm
I got picked to host one of the Windows 7 Launch parties. I just got the tracking number for the party pack. It should be here on the 7th. Hopefully I can install it right away. I've been running 7 since the RC was released. All of my games and peripherals work perfectly.
Amazon Offers Redelivery or $30 to "Kindle Remote Deletion" Victims

My friend had a copy of Animal Farm. He bought it for a class and had tons of annotations saved on it as well. After Amazon deleted it he was forced to buy a paper copy and start over. This is a lot like DRM on music. You pay a company for the rights to use media, but they still own it and can choose to remove it any time they want. Until prices are dropped and DRM is removed or fixed I will continue to buy paper books and CD's. At least that way I actually own them and can do what I please with them.
It's hard to justify almost $10 for a single e-book. I don't think it costs that much to copy a digital file and pay for hosting and bandwidth usage. Same for $1.25 per song for popular music. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

I wonder how much the OEM single use copies will cost. I just built a new desktop and instead of buying a copy of Vista I just installed the latest Windows 7 RC. I don't want to buy the retail when I only need it for the one computer and OEM is cheaper.
Fast Forward: The Fix Is In

I remember reaading an article somewhere a while back related to this. Some guy offered to fix a few college girls' laptops for free. He installed software that let him remotely activate their built in web cameras and stream himself the video. He recorded them changing and such. At least he wasn't a prefessional repair guy.

I'm pretty sure they have already started doing this. I remember GTA IV checking for the correct date when I first ran it.
