The Vista drivers should work fine. I've had few problems with drivers for Vista in Windows 7 Beta or RC.

Belkin already made a device like this, long ago. I've owned one for a couple months now.

 I use it to hook up my keyboard and mouse when I'm using my HDTV upstairs, but it could also be used with remotes. My computer's in the basement and I have a DVI>HDMI cord running though the wall, as well as a network cable.
