Microsoft Targets Apple, the Response? “A PC is no Bargain!”

Posted 04/25/2009 at 05:17:46pm

This is the perfect comment to reflect this whole arguement. Sure, there are plenty of $500 laptops that beat a $3000 macbook pro, but those laptops will start to fall apart in 6-8 monthes, and people know that will stuffed full of bloatware.  The thing is, people who don't know computer don't know how to remove the software, or don't know how to remove it.

You mean where our banks don't nead bailouts, and we don't have to worry about kids coming into schools with a gun?

I perfectly agree with you.  Import networks should not have internet connection, and very important ones should not even have a wireless network.  Pentegon networks, Whitehouse computers, Missile Silos, and other extremely important networks should be ethernet only.  It is pointless to hook up a missile silo to the internet, so the people running it can go on facebook/twitter.  The government should almost have it's own network, kinda like the internet was originally design as.

In Canada, we don't have any guns.  The only people with guns are people with a license, and law enforcement.  So far, its worked out fine.  Look at some of the recent school shootings, the people just went to a shop and picked up a gun.  In fact, gun owners are eight times more likely to have the gun kill a family member than a criminal or intruder. http://books.google.ca/books?id=n9t6bY2Vo_4C&pg=PA306&lpg=PA306&dq=guns+8+times+more+likely+to+kill+family+member&source=bl&ots=sZ4Y5w6fz4&sig=U4pLdASSjVOgS54ZW-GGos6W-g0&hl=en&ei=2SzhSZ164O-dB6D5-KMJ&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=5

Ya the federal government also relies on cadillac escalades but that doesn't make them amazing vehicles. They still will fail like the rest of GM.

I'm happy because Gordon will shut up about the whole iPhone doesn't have MMS thing. I still don't see why he doesn't get a blackberry.  Windows mobile is kinda sad.

Awesome, a 256 GB SSD with decent speeds for an SSD.  Too bad my money is going to OCZ for a 250 GB SDD with 200 mbs per second read, and 150 mbs per second writes.  That even beats an X-25M, but nothing can touch an X-25E.

Nvidia GeForce GTX 295

Posted 01/09/2009 at 05:02:45pm

So one isn't that bright.  The 4800 series was revealed on the eve of the GT200 launch, so don't be surprised if a 4970 with a 1 GB frame buffer of GDDR3 and a 384 bit memory interface and 1200-1600 stream processors, and all running at 200 watts on the 40nm process.  Then along the road (six to twelve weeks) we'll see an X2 vesion that will shut the Nvidia fanboys up for another 3 months.

Nvidia Reveals GeForce GTX 295 Specs

Posted 12/21/2008 at 10:01:42am

Look, a 4870 (not X2) runs somewhat close to a 280 GTX.  Remember the 9800 gx2 had lower clock speeds than even the G92 8800 GTS.  The GTX 260/280 are way hotter than the 8800 GTS G92.  Even though Nvidia is shrinking the process by 10nm, it isn't going to make much of a difference in the way of heat.  It will be too hot to run at stock GTX 260/280 speeds, so it will be underclocked.  The 4870 X2 was able to run at standard 4870 speeds, so it performs like two 4870, if not better in some benchmarks.  I am saying that the GTX 295 is going to run slower than two GTX 280 or two GTX 260, so it will run at speeds close to the 4870 X2.  This tiny improvement is just going to give ATI more time.  What if they come out with a 40nm 4970 with 1300 stream processers, and then make an X2 version.
