Rupert Murdoch: Expect to See News Corp Media Removed from Google

Posted 11/09/2009 at 03:44:23pm

Leaving aside the fact that, by their own admission, they don't do news at all but commentary, and that the average viewer of Fox Commentary Channel is an idiot only slightly dumber and less useful to society than a conservatard, I have no problem at all with them denying themselves the google-driven traffic.

They could, of course, simply update their robots.txt file, but instead they're trying this stupid public relations ploy.  Just like a right-winger--don't do anything substantive, just sit around and whine about how unfair it all is.

Microsoft Will Offer Family Pack for Windows 7 Home Premium

the Microsoft homepage, fwiw.

Has anyone at MPC or anywhere else gotten word on this from MS?  I would only call this a rumor at this point, if not a practical joke.

But I had also used the WDSynch software on the WD 320GB USB drive I recently bought.  Belt and suspenders kind of thing.  Restoring from the WDSynch backup was fast and flawless.  I still had to manually re-enter my email server settings, but cest la vie and all that crap.

Ask the Doctor: Rolling Back IE7

Posted 02/17/2009 at 10:30:47pm

IE 7 takes longer than IE 6 because the rendering engine in IE 7 is more complex, and therefore slower.  The pages serve at the same speed.

I use IE 7 at work because that's the DOD standard, and I use IE 8 beta and firefox at home.

Nothing is idiot-proof.  If I've learned anything as a soldier or an IT manager, it's that if you make something idiot-proof, somebody will make a better idiot.

20 Windows 7 Tweaks & Tips – Every Secret Uncovered to Date

My four year old AMD 3400+ laptop with two GB of DDR2 400 and ATI 9700 graphics now performs better than it did under even a clean install of XPsp2 or XPsp3.  There are some minor issues, but this is a beta OS so I wasn't expecting everything to be perfect.

My ripping and encoding times for video and audio are better, my downloading, with or without the getright download manager are faster, and my games mostly perform a little better.  I never did vista on this machine, so it was a full clean install of win7 onto a partition for me.  I'd get rid of the winxp partiion completely, but smart-card middleware for the Army doesn't work right under win7, so I'm keeping xp for now, but that's all I've used it for in the last week.  When the middleware issue is sorted, I'm going to put win7 on my desktop computer as well.  That's the only thing holding me back.
