I prefer FileForum or MajorGeeks over Download.com, but otherwise I agree with you 100%

My tip for a faster computer is to use a faster/lighter OS.
For example: instead of Windows Vista, try Windows 7, or instead of Ubuntu, try CrunchBang Linux.

What about FlashGot? Its a great extension to grab files/videos and send them to your download manager.

Well you can at least say Vista was a mistake, and Microsoft learned from that mistake and made Windows 7.

Have you considered that maybe Arch and Slackware don't want a graphical installer? Such distros are not targeted to Joe Average.

Microsoft Windows has enough of a marketshare that they probably don't care about the remaining percentage.
