Pirate Bay Lawyer Requests Retrial
Posted 04/23/2009 at 04:28:34pm
This guy NOT recusing himself from this trial is just about proof positive that the outcome was fixed before the trial even began.
Not sure what the courts are like there, but if this happened in the US, that verdict would be thrown out in a heartbeat.

Lite-On Predicts that Blu-Ray Combo Drives Will Go Mainstream in 2009, Burners in 2011

Until the manufacturers get the prices down on BD hardware, both for PC's and for plain old BD players, BD is still going to take a beating as opposed to DVD. On top of that, charging $10-$20 more for a BD disc of a movie as opposed to the cheap cost of DVD's, this is also killing the format.
If the manufacturers wait too much longer to drop prices, digital downloads my just be the death knell of BD before it has a chance to catch on.
BioWare-LucasArts Joint Project Announcement Coming Oct. 21, Probably KOTOR MMO

If this game is implemented correctly, something tells me that Star Wars Galaxies days are numbered. Then again, the last time I logged in when SOE sent me a freebie month, the server was pretty much dead at that time, and I played on a server with one of the largest populations (Ahazi).
I hope LucasArts gets that Star Wars fans don't want another game showing up with great potiential that ends up getting trashed by people like John Smedley.

Media Center wise:
So will this mean that M$ is actually planning on getting WHS set up so we can use it as a TV Tuner farm and share video around our networks? I hope so...
Now if they only do something regarding the lack of HD tuner availabilty for anyone but OEMs...
And another idea:
How about roaming profiles on home networks?
RIAA Wins P2P Case Because Defendant Used a File Shredder
Posted 08/31/2008 at 08:29:38am
Appeal. EFF should pony up and get this guy a lawyer for an appeal. This is a dangerous precident, and should not be allowed to stand as case law for future trials.
I, and I'm sure many other tech savvy people routinely wipe our hard disks. So basically, what this ruling is saying, is don't do it anymore just in case you are sued, otherwise you will lose because you "tampered" with the evidence. That is a rediculous notion. I think it's pretty clear that sometimes it's just easier to wipe the disk and start with a fresh OS install then it is to try to fix the problem.
Got news for you RIAA - I own my PC. I'll do what I need to do to repair it, regardless of your court ruling.
If the EFF doesn't help this guy appeal this ruling, then the EFF is no longer doing its job.
Newegg Reverses Decision to Collect New York Sales Tax
Posted 08/28/2008 at 09:10:06pm
As a long term employee of the NY State Department of Taxation and Finance, I applaud Newegg for their stance. They do not have a NY State nexus, so as is my understanding, there is no reason for them to collect sales tax from NY State customers. This is what we employees have been taught for the decade and a half I've been there. No nexus = no responsibility to collect sales tax... Basically, the politicians in our state have spent way too much money, and are now looking for new sources of revenue. I say that's just too bad. Cut back on some of your pork. I look forward to Newegg, Amazon, and Overstock bitchslapping my employer and putting the politicians back in their place.
