The Game Boy: Killing Millions Since 1857
Posted 10/15/2009 at 12:00:25pm
It.Is.A.GAME. Just as if it were a movie, tv show, or other form of media, it's not real. It's not suggested as being real. It's entertainment. It's a way to have fun. It's a GAME! Did you really feel there was a need for this useless of an article? Who cares about the morals of the characters in a game? Who cares how much "unjust" bloodshed there is? Now, once more with feeling: IT IS JUST A GAME!

Sorry about double post, but your site seems to be freaking out. It seems that you've recoded your site to not function properly if AdBlock is enabled. Very cheap. Very lame.
I don't know who's in charge at MaxPC.com anymore but I really liked the last 3 or 4 layouts this site had (before this one) and I've liked the functionality of the site (with AdBlock on) until now. It's just sad what you've done with yourselves and with the site. That is all.

1. Site is just too offensively bright now.
2. I've always used AdBlock on MaxPC's site and the site has always loaded quickly and scrolled smoothly.
3. I refuse to disable AdBlock before and after MaxPC's site update because it's just too noisy and performs (load/scroll/etc) horribly (yes even after update). Also, on top of poor performance and loudness, if I were to disable AdBlock then I'd have to be staring at some retarded ad background.
4. Site is very 1999 looking. Just horrible.
5. I'll have to find another tech site (thousands of choices) to get news and blogs from as I just can't look at this any longer.

Looks absolutely horrible. Hurts my eyes. Very unpleasant. Makes me not want to stay on this site any longer than absolutely necessary. Why red? Why red on white? Just why? Why?

ATI Catalyst 8.12 Videocard Drivers Released Today
Posted 12/10/2008 at 06:28:38pm
I do not see anything in the driver's release notes or this article about fixing any of the dozens of HORRIBLE graphical, sys.reqs, or other frame-rate-killing and incompatibility issues for GTA IV. I must assume from this complete lack of effort on AMD/ATI's part that they either do not care about their customer's that purchased GTA IV or they assume that Rockstar is 100% to blame in this debacle and ATI's drivers could not ever help it become more playable. Either way, I'm still waiting for Steam (Valve) to give me a full refund as I'm so ticked at Rockstar that I refuse to play GTA IV or any of their games forever just on principle.

Windows XP Fans, Your Christmas Present Has Arrived
Posted 12/04/2008 at 06:44:42pm
Newly updated correction since your article first hit MaximumPC.com
the following is a direct paste from http://www.winsupersite.com/faq/xp_sp3.asp
Q: Does SP3 include everything from SP1 and SP2 or do I need to install those first?
A: Though XP SP3 aggregates all of the previously-released XP fixes, Microsoft now says that you will need to install at least SP1 on XP before installing SP3. The company recommends installing SP2 first as well, though that is not required.

Valve's Gabe Newell: "Most DRM Strategies Are Just Dumb"
Posted 12/04/2008 at 06:18:39pm
@ shellpc
When dankers said "...it wont run without some community thingy running at all times..." he meant the Rockstar Social Club which is required to be running to launch GTA IV from within it. If you didn't get this game from Steam the RSSC is probably not that huge of a pain, BUT for anyone (like myself) who bought and tried to play GTA IV through Steam, it becomes a headache very quickly.
If I want to play GTA IV, Steam has to be running. When I click on Launch for GTA IV it doesn't launch GTA IV at all. It launches the RSSC. From there I have to click PLAY, which only works when I'm logged out of the Social Club, which negates the entire reasoning for having it.
Side Note: It doesn't even matter to me if Rockstar, Steam, or GFW make drastic and amazing fixes to this game and/or it's surrounding services by tomorrow. I am so completely offended by Rockstar North Games, Take-Two Interactive and any other affiliates that I am choosing to not only get a full refund for GTA IV and never play it EVER, but I am also choosing to never purchase a Take-Two or Rockstar game EVER again. That's how bad you screwed this pooch!

Comcast to Offer Bandwidth Usage Monitor
Posted 12/04/2008 at 11:43:47am
Ok. So I'm a Comcast customer. I really disliked Comcast's P2P practices before the FCC stepped in. My ubuntu and other legal torrent downloads were crawling at about 4k-15k. Now since the FCC threatened Comcast my exact same torrents are getting over 500k-700k. Talk about improvement! I have never monitored my usage, but even with tons of online gaming, Hulu, torrents, constant browsing on heavy video, etc sites, and much more, I still don't think I even made it halfway to Comcast's 250GB limit in just one month.
This monitor is a really great idea. I like it. It makes my life as a consumer easier because now I don't have to worry about getting a notice from them. I can check out my account and if I'm getting close I'll just spend more time outdoors or with my family and less time on TF2.
I typically dislike Comcast out of principle as their cable TV is way over priced and they thought it was right for them to limit certain types of internet traffic. I believe in Net Neutrality. I don't like that Comcast is basically a monopoly for anything over 3M in a LOT of the areas they service.
However, I have yet to have an aggravating call, long wait times, or horrible service from Comcast, whether it's online, on the phone, or in person at a local customer service location. They've always been friendly and helped me. My account has always been updated correctly and when my 2 year old modem died I was back online in less than 1 hour with a new one at no cost. Plus they are literally doubling my speed from 6M to 12M and Powerboost from 12M to 20M on December 16th at NO additional cost. Even with more speed I don't see me hitting their bandwidth limit. After all I do have a life away from a computer or gaming console. Fresh air is nice, no? The bandwidth cap is a reasonable size for monthly use IMHO.
The idea of a cap might appear frightening or wrong to some, but I have no complaints unless the limit is ridiculously low or abused in some way by the ISP that set it (I'm looking at you AT&T). I see no reason to complain about getting 12M/2M internet with a Powerboost of 20M/5M for less than $45 per month, especially considering my torrent speeds and the service I have received so far. IT's a damn good deal IMO.
