Intel Decides to Hold Off on USB 3.0 Support Until 2011

Posted 10/22/2009 at 11:44:19pm

I'M MAD AS HELL AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE!  A protest!  Retaliate, I say!  You know that Intel ad where they're debating where to cut the cake first, and finally a real man steps up and gets himself a damn corner piece, and the first dork asks "Why don't you just pop all the balloons and spit in the punch?"

Great idea, you clown!  Don't mind if I do!  At least SOMEONE will actually ENJOY the party!  ME!  Let's not forget, I'm YOUR CUSTOMER!  I'm The Man who pulls out his wallet and pays for your product with cold hard cash.  Only in THIS case it happens to be a hot, sweaty, fistfull of hundred dollar bills!  I have half a mind to cram 'em down your throat and hope you choke!  Why wait for either the chicken or the egg?  I'm hungry now, dammit, and I don't care if it's scrambled eggs or chicken soup!  Actually the market is more like a salad, now that I think about it.  Hasn't someone already released some USB 3.0 external hard drives?  I'm sure I saw that on here the other day.  Oh yeah, Buffalo.  Here's a quote from the article:

"The company also plans to offer NEC's IFC-PCIE2U3 2-port PCI-Express x1 host controller because, well, what good is a USB 3.0 drive without a controller to take advantage of it?"

Now there's a company that can figure out how to cut a cake.

Thanks for stepping up to the cake to play with yourself, Intel.  I'm sure it was delicious and moist while it lasted.  Now step aside.

Analyst: Prepare to Pay More (A Lot More) for Xbox Live

Posted 10/19/2009 at 01:27:27pm

I'm going on my 7th year on Xbox Live, started as a beta tester, and I'm not really sure the service has been worth the $350.  If they're going to double the cost, they'd better at least double the value of the service.  For me, that would mean adding a full browser (preferably Firefox, which seems unlikely, but that alone would justify $50 for a lot of gamers), a few GBs of storage online, so I can upload my game saves to the hypothetical Xbox Live Cloud, and let's say a free movie rental, or a few thousand MS Points...

I presume Project Natal is going to be the key factor in an Xbox Live price hike, so I'd expect to see a lot of video related services, maybe even YouTube.  In the meantime, I'm going to wait patiently, like I always do, expecting prices for games and hardware to come down (curse you 120 GB HDD! May as well wait for the 250 GB HDD at this point) and hope that service prices don't go up.

Yeah, I don't see very many options for the mouse either. It did manage to avoid walls, but it never turned left, or try to manuver backwards. I'd be interested if it could jump.

It looks like an ashtray, but it sounds cool...  I was thinking of getting one of Logitech's remotes, but maybe I'll wait for something better.

MSI Eclipse SLI

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this board has been the Best Core i7 Socket LGA 1366 Motherboard for six months now...  Surely there is something better by now, especially if you can get better audio from a sound card.  I just got an i7 920 and I'm trying to figure out which mobo to get.  EVGA, Asus, Gigabyte, MSI...  It's difficult to compare all the choices.  I'm hoping someone can simplify this by the end of the week, or that I can at least figure it out by the end of the month.  I'm thinking I'll get the ATI HD Radeon 5870.

Looking forward to the review on this one, I suspect it'll score higher than the Hitachi, but perhaps not the Seagate...  The next issue should have a showdown between all three, ending with me buying the best :)
