PC Sales Bounce Back after Slow Start in 2009

Posted 06/26/2009 at 01:17:13pm

I have been beta testing Win 7 RC1 for a couple of months now on three different machines, x64 flavor and I can't say enough good things about it. Though, Vista x62 in which I have had no problem with to really report as far as stability goes. I know for most people, why upgrade?

Personally, I will get Win 7's final release next month. But for the masses, sure get more bang for the buck and get a new machine when the time comes, makes reasonable sense. If you're personally happy with Vista, stick with it until then. Besides, there's no rush.

Is The Open Source Business Model Broken?

Posted 12/07/2008 at 04:35:51pm

I am not buying this. Businesses will and are looking into the open source facade and realizing a couple of things, first off, the OS and software claims to be free, licenses that is -- and indeed so, least for the most part.

However, the real money comes into the reality by support and services, retraining the employees and adding a dimension of frustration and anxiety to the work force. Paid training and consultation fees, and the certain probability of hardware costs. One might argue what would be the hardware costs, "Linux has all the drivers for everything." Yeah right... Sure buddy, here take another hit from your crack pipe. By the way, these Linux Zealots are one of the main reasons that folks like myself cannot take kids like this seriously.

Right now with the economy, why would I want to take my company financially and my loyal employees both with this open source nonsense?

Exclusive Interview: Microsoft Admits What Went Wrong with Vista, and How They Fixed It

Posted 10/10/2008 at 09:47:26am

Vista like any other OS by Microsoft, and for that matter, many of the applications they do lives and dies by the Service Packs. Vista isn't nearly as bad as "everyone" is saying. I've been using it for some time and been having an overall "good" experience with it.

Of course, I have high end PCs running it and can't imagine using public assistant or low end boxes to run this powerful operating system.

I do hope that this new "OS" is exactly that, a lightweight, non-arcane compatible operating system that will rock!

Finally . . . Phenom!

Just built one and it's noticeably slower in all my tests against my Intel beastie. Yup, I'll stick with Intel's "True Power" vs AMD's "True 4 Core" any day.

Refresh 2 Out for Vista and XP Beta Testers, but Users Wait (Officially)

Posted 01/31/2008 at 09:12:23am

Yes, I've tried the patch last night and followed the easy steps, it's a snap. No worries. Though it does take some time through the Window's update application. Warning: For those with pirated copies, the SP1 -RC Refresh patch goes after "signatures" so I am pleased about this fact, really am. I dind't notice much of a speed increase except with the following: 1.) IE 7.0 is a tad bit quicker. 2.) Network file transfers are slightly faster 3.) Outlook 2007 is snappier on startup and Mail transfers. 4.) Better utilization of System RAM. More responsive. 5.) Some quirks with the Windows Sidebar is now resolved. 6.) My Dual-Core seems to act a bit more responsive, least its reflecting so on my Windows Sidebar. Could be related to item 5. 7.) It certainly made my Media Player a heck of lot more responsive -- I have a massive music collection and album art was snappier in displaying all the art work as I scrolled down without any "Stuttering" from the video department. 8.) Photoshop CS3, Visual Studio 2008, Quickbooks Primier 2008, Adobe Acrobat 8 3D was much faster on bootup. 9.) Overall I/O seems to be a tad bit faster. I feel it was certainly worth my time doing the update and I am relieved that I took the time in this update. My Vista x64 was running great before and I was and is, having a wonderful experience with it. I hope this helps everyone out there contemplating this update.
