Murphy's Law: Unfolding the Future of the Social Web with OpenID

But most provider still authenticate users via a password. This is only as strong and secure as the password chosen, and most people don't use strong passwords.

I like myopenid.com for uh, my OpenID because it supports using a client SSL certificate to authenticate.

People are going to find a way to gamble. Let them. Its time that people are responsible for their actions. So make gambling legal at the Federal level, let the states impose the laws they see fit, and let em tax the shit out of it.

Microsoft is Keeping on the Offensive with another "Laptop Hunters" Commercial

Posted 04/13/2009 at 10:30:15am

Microsoft once again shows their prowess as a marketing company, not a technology company.

Our country is in an economic recession, and people are focused on the cost, rather than on the capabilities, of their purchases.  Microsoft is playing on that, and they're very agressive at it.

But they're still not going to appeal to the geeks, hipsters and power users who want a Mac for all the reasons the people in these commercials don't want Macs. Just like Microsoft can't convince these people to buy a Windows system, these people can't convince others to buy a Mac. "A person convinced against their will is of the same opinion still" - Dale Carnegie.

Proposed Bill Gives Obama the Power to Shut Down the Internet

Posted 04/12/2009 at 11:18:34pm

First, its a draft and subject to change. Second, it states:

SEC 18(2): [The President] may declare a cybersecurity emergency and order the limitation or shutdown of Internet traffic to and from any compromised Federal Government or United States critical infrastructure information system or network;

Further, 'critical inrastructure information systems or network' is defined in SEC 23(3):

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AND UNITED STATES CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE INFORMATION SYSTEMS AND NETWORKS- The term ‘Federal Government and United States critical infrastructure information systems and networks’ includes--

(A) Federal Government information systems and networks; and

(B) State, local, and nongovernmental information systems and networks in the United States designated by the President as critical infrastructure information systems and networks

 Of course, I don't think the person who has the authority to declare emergency and shut anything down should be the person that determines which systems can be shut down. So contact your senators and let them know your concern about this bill; either the quoted sections above, or the whole thing.
