Windows 7 Review: XP vs Vista vs 7 in 80+ Benchmarks

Posted 10/19/2009 at 11:07:27pm

Unlike some of the comments i've read negatively giving poor feedback on this OS - i'd have to say it must be you.  I have been using 7 since beta and have been pleasantly using RC1 for a while now flawlessly.  In fact I have it dual boxed on both my rigs and like it better than Vista which is surprising since Vista hasn't really been much of a issue for me and I've been using it since its RC days.  Vista at first sucked badly and I touted it as one of the worst OS launches ever but improvements made it more than just a workable OS, its fast and secure.

Windows 7 so far in the RC stage is far more stable than any OS I've used and it is a lot quicker.   The lack of items such as Windows mail, photo gallery and movie maker is no big deal.  Thunderbird is much nicer than windows mail and firefox is a better browser than IE8.  For those that hate office 07, well use Openoffice.org.. Its FREE and its damn near identical to Microsoft office.  Running this OS in RC as stable and fast as it is I find it very hard to believe there will be any mainstream problems.  For everything hardware that I use is working fine with vista and continues to perform the same if not better on windows 7.  The only thing that I currently own which is mainly a XP built item is my printer and it to is just barely a pre vista printer but it works just fine with both platforms.  So, like a few people on here have mentioned if you're complaining about hardware compatibilities either your crap is to old or you haven't downloaded the latest drivers.  XP user boasting they'll never use windows 7 over XP know this, Microsoft will stop supporting XP sooner rather than later and when they do, vendors will stop writing drivers and code for it.  I like XP to, but its end is near, after almost 10 years its been around long enough!

I've been running vista since its release on beta. Initially it sucked and even the first retail release was buggy. Driver support sucked, it just wasn't well supported for a good 4 months. Now its great. I didn't hate vista initially, I just knew it was new to the industry and people were still making drivers for it. For those of you complaining that vista sucks, then you must have a crappy machine to run it on. Its no secret vista is a resource hog and is a bit bloated with useless crap. If you don't want all the useless features then get Vista Business edition in either of its platforms (32bit or 64 bit). If you have anything less than a 6800GT video card then don't bother even posting a reply! lol. With todays technology you should be running vista with plenty of resources to spare, especially if you are a gamer! If you don't upgrade often then stick with what works best for a older machine.. XP is your platform! I don't recommend vista with anything less than 4 gig of ram and a C2D CPU or AMD socket 939 class processor. I'm running todays latest and greatest which is a C2D E6850 with 4 gig corsair DDR2 800, EVGA 780I motherboard and EVGA 8800GTS (G92) video and have no problems what so ever. I have Vista on a AMD skt 939 4800+ x2 with 4 gig of ram system and it runs flawless. Vista 64bit ultimate edition is flawless with the exception of some lingering driver issues. Wish 32bit was a good as its 64bit counter part. Its smooth as butter and in most cases & its far better then XP. As reviewed by Maximum PC some vista features are annoying like defrag and security pop-ups. XP in its first couple years was annoying too and this is no different.
