Ask the Doctor: Windows 7 vs. iTunes
Posted 07/07/2009 at 08:31:14pm
Because iTunes would immediately disconnect the iPod, you need to set up a bunch of stuff to sync when connected. Enough to take a couple of minutes to sync.
Plug in your iPod.
As it is synching all the stuff you already set up, go to your iPod and check enable disk use and apply.
After it is done, go into your iTunes pref/devices and check disable automatic syncing.
The key is to get a bunch of stuff ready for it to sync- it won't disconnect the iPod until it's done that. That gives you time to get the enable disk use box checked and apply. It took me a while to get all this working, but now I have no more problems.
Hope it helps you.Ask the Doctor: Pluggin' the Analog Hole

I have been using Total Recorder for years now. Works on Vista no problem. Basically, if you can hear it through your speakers, you can record it, in whatever format your heart desires, providing you have the codec.
It is not a free program, but it is cheap and you get free upgrades forever.

As If You Needed Another Reason Not to Buy Laptops from Office Depot

I wonder, from anyone reading who has been an OD employee, did they pay a bonus or commission on those upsell's? Seems it would be a better policy to appeal to their paychecks instead of trying to terrorize them. But that would cost them money, so...
I have only gone to OD for little stuff here and there, so I dont know about how hard they push, but as for Best Buy, one of the reasons I like shopping there so much is that they *dont* hassle me about the extended warranty and all that garbage. They ask, I say no, they leave me alone. Just like I like it.
