Stardock: Only 23% of Demigod Players Even Tried to Play Online

Posted 11/20/2009 at 06:42:50am

I'm kind of guilty...after all, I never took Sins of a Solar Empire online...still waiting on my single-player storyline, too...and with such a dramatic opening cinema, I just feel hollow and bitter without one...Come on Stardock, hire some writers, produce some good old fashioned single-player content, complete with a gosh-darned protection-mission.

8 Things You Need to Know about Chrome OS

Posted 11/19/2009 at 02:27:36pm

Well, I love the Chrome browser, but no thank you, Chrome OS...they went the direction I figured they would, and I just don't like it when a company tells me what hardware to use.  Freedom of choice in hardware is why I use Windows and occasionally "regular" Linux.

...and cloud computing just isn't practical in Kentucky, where you simply won't have access to the internet all the time, no matter what telecom you use.

Maybe this would work in a big market area, but most Americans don't live in "big markets."

Apple Keeps Fighting the Bad Fight; Locks Pre Out of iTunes Again

Posted 11/01/2009 at 11:16:38am

I mean, maybe not, but seriously, it's very hard to call blatantly anti-competitive practices "capitalism."

I'd LOVE capitalism to come in and basically force Apple to do the respectful thing for its customers, but just look at how long it took them to add a radio to the Ipod.  They mostly don't care about customers...Extremely few large companies do, not even Google...they just happen to have a business model that's mostly in line with our interests, which I hope never changes.

Apple Keeps Fighting the Bad Fight; Locks Pre Out of iTunes Again

Here's the fix:

Don't buy from the iTunes store, buy physical copies that are superior, and sync with Windows Media Player.  Was that so hard?

When Competition Threatens, Try Throwing a Tantrum

Posted 10/29/2009 at 07:24:51am

Doesn't seem too much like socialism to me...looks like it got a monopolistic corporation to finally act in a way that benefited consumers more than it's own bottom line.

Looks like I'll be linking this story to some friends...

Would You Pay $1,200 for a Mouse?

Posted 10/27/2009 at 01:37:02pm

The Logitech MX518 is the most expensive mouse I have ever or would ever buy...and at $45, I thought it was a bit high.  Really, 90% of the time, a $20 is perfectly fine, and is about all that I would recommend to people to buy.

Of course, all that said, my '518 has lasted me for 3 1/2 years...

Microsoft Pokes Some Fun at Apple's App Store

The 50 Best (and Worst) Moments in Windows History

Posted 10/20/2009 at 09:13:07am

I just have to say some things:  XP is over, Vista is pretty good, and 7 looks awesome!

Seriously, XP?  If you use Vista for very long on a capable computer, you can't help but notice how primitive it feels these days.  If only for the fact that Vista finds most of my drivers for me, I can say it's better than XP is...But it also makes networking a snap, works pretty effortlessly with media extenders, is notably faster at downloads of all sorts, and, whether or not it makes programs run faster, the UI is faster to use, especially thanks to a good search bar in the start menu.

It's also stable as a rock...I run folding@home, and, apart from resets for updates, my overclocked quad-core with 2 graphics cards runs at darn close to 100% utilization 24/7 without a hiccup.  If your system is unstable, it's your fault, almost always.  Heck, even with ME, all you had to do was download a memory-management program, like Memturbo, and you could expect to be bug free.

As has been noted before, Windows 7 is actually Windows 6.1, and I'm completely happy with that...and all the features it adds make it definitely worth the price.

For too long, it's been hip to bash Windows, especially Vista.  Get a clue about what you're doing, or hire someone to help you, and you'll be amazed at how much better your experience is.

Trending Topics: Single-Serving Websites

...At the risk of sounding like a pretentious academic, Alvin Toffler actually wrote about this in his future-imagining work, The Third Wave, which predicted that our society would increasingly consume smaller and smaller bits of data, becoming what he termed "a blip-culture". Nothing exemplifies that more than these websites.
