FTC 1, Antivirus XP 0
Posted 12/15/2008 at 10:08:11pm
I get stuff like this at work on a regular basis. The FTC and all them government people need to stop worrying about P2Ps and sharing music and start working on keeping people from being scammed by stuff like this. At my work, MalwareBytes and SUPERAntispyware are what we use commonly to kill this stuff. SUPERAntispyware has a lot of repairs such as killing the unchangable desktop those rogues install. We've found nothing more powerful than those two programs. Doctor Web CureIt and LiveCD are needed for more heavier infections and those often end up being OS repaired or formatted. My workplace is fighting the War on Zlob as best as we can. We are even considering 'vaccinating' peoples machines with SpywareBlaster since it doesn't remove the entries it installs to protect when it is uninstalled. I hope you guys out there are fighting the War on Zlob too. ZLOB is going down!!!

Why is Google Running Ads for Known Malware Sites?
Posted 11/14/2008 at 02:42:55pm
If you search something pronographically related and you come across a page with groups.google.(insert end here), you'll get a page and when you click the link on that one, you'll get directed to some place like PornoTube to download the Zlob, Renos, whatever trojan or some rouge program. Google may be in cahoots with the malware makers, which they probably are, but maybe the deal went that instead of paying for our fake licenses to software that does nothing, why don't you advertise our software and make us more money? My theory is that Google doesn't care about comp safety at all and that they serve up the fakers just so that the malware people make money and leave google alone. It's like appeasing Hitler, it didn't work. My guess is that the malware might just go off, hack google, and end us for good.

AMD Stops the Hemorrhaging, but is Still Bleeding Cash

I'm not much of a fan of AMD's. They get too hot too fast and die all too often.

More competition means less of a monopoly. It would be really interesting if Nvidia combined with Intel or vice-versa. A big GPU and Motherboard maker combines with a big CPU and Motherboard maker. Look at AMD and ATI's model. Intel and Nvidia coming together on something, other than in a CPU and GPU in the same motherboard, would be pretty cool.
One Year Later, Asus Eee PC Breaks $300 Price Barrier, Still Sucks

I really don't think an Eee PC is too bad. If A) you can get one with Windows on it and B) one with an actual HDD, you should have no problems with it. I've considered purchasing an Eee PC strickly for everyday things. The integrated LAN, wireless, and Bluetooth are nothing to be disappointed of by anybody. The one I'm looking into can have up to 2GB of RAM, if I toss the 1GB stick that came with it. In Windows XP, it's easy pickings. The only question would be how well would it perform in a Windows Vista Home Basic environment, because every other version of Windows Vista would probably suck up too much power to run decently. Then again, the power isn't really there and I'm not sure an Atom processor is even supported by Windows Vista because all these Atom processor PCs have either Windows XP or Linux.
The Best Open-Source (or Freeware) System Optimizers!

Apparently they don't know about Comodo Registry Cleaner. The latest version of the firewall does remember settings a lot better. They're not an article anywhere about Comodo. Maybe they prefer the other security and cleanup programs proven not to work so well. It's the best free firewall against leak tests according to the Matsoutec Firewall Challenge. I'm surprised Maximum PC didn't cover that firewall challenge. Maybe it was because of the big names failing the tests. They are probably not going to mention when Comodo Internet Security comes out into Final Release either. Why? It's cause that Comodo's free and the tests show it's better than what you pay for.

. . .CCLeaner is pretty good. ATFCleaner, now that's a real computer cleaner if you ask me. Comodo Registry Cleaner, that's a real registry cleaner cause it massively outperforms CCleaner. Does Maximum PC even know that Comodo even exists? They have the best registry cleaner http://registry-cleaner.comodo.com/comparison.html and they have the best free firewall when it comes to the Firewall Challenge http://www.matousec.com/projects/firewall-challenge/results.php. They're firewall kicks those big names like Norton, McAfee, BitDefender, and Trend Micro to the curb. And now, they have a FREE internet security program combining antivirus and firewall protection in beta in the form of Comodo Internet Security (CIS). Comodo's slowly crawling up and it's already known to the other security companies since Comodo's firewall hit the 1st place mark for the longest time and then the other companies had to fix their stuff because something free for life was better than what they charged people for. They amped their own stuff up to fix the potential loss of customers to those who used the FREE firewall.
So Maximum PC, does Comodo even exist to you guys?
