Windows 7 vs Linux: What's the Best OS for Your Netbook?
Posted 07/02/2009 at 01:47:32am
OK: So which OS won? I didn't see any "Ratings" expressed in numbers.
It looks to me that each OS has problems....
Just different types. Right?

I love my country. I fear it's Government.
Ya got 3 categories: #1 - Linux on the 2nd or 3rd or so computer (might I suggest Ubuntu, just for a try?),
#2 - buy the Dongle for OSX and get the family pack, or.........
#3 - give Microsoft the money they so rightfully deserve....they NEED the money. No matter what ideas you have, option 3 is gonna cost you plenty. Pay the man.
Windows 7 Pricing and Upgrade Programs Revealed!

Not trying to ruffle any feathers, but with a simple download of an .iso and a burn, a person could try one of the Linux distro's. Use it on a desktop, laptops can be flaky.
One computer get's the MS, the other Linux....and Linux is available in 32, or 64 bit, there's multiple distro's and variations available.
For a 2nd computer, you just might like an open source alternative to windows. You can always change your mind and buy yet another copy of M$. Linux, on the other hand, can be put on as many machines as you want. For FREE.

Congress Expresses Concern Over E-Mail Surveillance
Posted 06/22/2009 at 12:45:26am
I am gravely disappointed in the Government of the USA. They have nothing else to do but screw with Citizen's Rights. I say: have the smallest possible Government: just enough to prevent anarchy.S.O.P. is to create vast numbers of redundant departments to increase the size and scope of "the Parasite".
Example: G.W.Bush get's elected as a "Conservative". He's supposed to CONSERVE the resources of this nation. Terrorist acts happen, and he finds out that the FBI and CIA aren't communicating, and aren't sharing intelligence. Instead of forcing them to re-vamp operations and cooperate, he creates yet another Department : "Homeland Security".
Americans - do you feel more secure now?
Hurricane Katrina - FEMA was shown to be worse than useless, people could not leave New Orleans without permission. Permission was not granted for weeks.Folks trying to leave by walking were ordered back....people in vehicles, the same....by the National Guard. POLICE STATE Tactics.
The local Police, State Police, and Feds confiscated people's legally - owned firearms. 2nd amendment rights trampled, by the government. Take away the legal power of the people to defend themselves - That is Criminal.
They waste our money, start bullshit wars (Osama Bin Laden is the culprit, so our armed forces go after Saddam Hussain and Iraq ?), and squander the energies of the people. This Government is totally out of control. They give our money to other countries, fund the Anti - USA United Nations , and trample our rights. They actually give tax breaks to companies who outsource...and show them how to do so.Yes,there's a department for that, also.
I couldn't believe it when the Supreme Court voted to allow contractor's to use "Eminent Domain" to evict East coast people from their humble homes, some of which had been in their families' for generations; because the local government would get more tax money from the new, expensive homes that would be put up. Way to go.
The Constitution (Which every office holder at the Federal level is sworn to uphold) was created to "Bind down the power of government as if with chains" to ensure the rights of it's citizens. The government of the USA does not respect the Constitution, they do as they damn well please.
The internet is a most wonderful thing....the actual manifestation of free speech.
They want to monitor, control, tax, police, and restrict this medium. They don't give a damn about the Constitution. The Federal Government, most State Governments,County Governments, City Governments;and their cronies' in big business want to manipulate and control the people.
We need less government! Vote out the ones that don't do their job(s) according to the Constitution.
Our government is THE biggest threat to freedom that exists.
Isn't that ironic?
I love my country, I fear it's government.

Proposed Bill Gives Obama the Power to Shut Down the Internet
Posted 04/13/2009 at 08:46:58pm
World War 3 was/is the "Cold War". If you think Obama is a defender of the Constitution, which he and all members of congress have taken an oath to defend, I believe you're mistaken.
I hope I'm wrong. Freedom of speech has been expressed more on the Internet than anywhere...and continues to expand. Newspapers have gone digital, my home town of Flint, Michigan has recently went to a 3 day a week print version, the other days are by internet subscription...
What a great way to shut down communication and the expression of opinion! Pull the plug on the 'net.
Just wait until Obama and Congress start to put their 5000% tax on ammunition, and require that all bullets have a built - in "identifier" on them...traceable back to the purchaser. The "Assault Weapons ban" will come back, but this time it will be incredibly sweeping. BTW...anytime I'm assaulted by a weapon, be it a Baseball Bat,Knife, chainsaw or fist....I will be attacked by an "Assault Weapon".
I hope I'm wrong. I doubt I am.
It's a free country as long as you pay your own way.
Mortal OS Kombat: Linux versus Windows 7
Posted 01/26/2009 at 05:26:36am
Whatever OS people want, they'll get. F.O.S.S. is not a revolution,it's an evolution.
As people find computing as a normal part of their lives, some will stick with windows, others will be a tad more adventurist.
Example: a group of computer users learn email, surfing, and IM.Some of that group will learn more esoteric skills such as CAD. Some will go on to learn Sysadmin. Some will learn programming.
A percentage of that group will not want,or even need to progress beyond the simple email/surf/IM.
There is no fight here. There are only possibilities, and choices.
Windows XP gets Another Stay of Execution
Posted 12/24/2008 at 02:40:30am
I have a buddy who went all out and built a killer "Rack - Mount" style system...the works. He did this when Vista was just out, so of course, he got the $400.00 "Ultimate" version.
He has numerous computers, also his wife and (grown, college) kids are sometimess around with their laptops, etc.
He's really proud of the fact that he built his first custom computer....but when I ask whoever is using it "How do you like Vista?" , they never say "It's GREAT! ", or "I Really like it!"....What they say is "Well,it takes some getting used to, and it's harder to use for some things. Actually, it's OK".
So, I ordered a copy of 64 - bit XP, and several tech books on Ubuntu, I think I got away cheap. I spent the rest of the $400 on hardware.
What I will use is XP Pro 32 bit, 64 bit; and Linux. With laptops and 2 kids, there's 7 computers (I build my own) .
Only 2 will have M$' "Big Brother' OS, checking your media" machines, (For Gaming)...the rest will run (we don't do spyware at all! ), Linux.
What I DO like about Vista, it has made a lot of hardware obsolete.
Older Computers (DDR2!) can now be had for cheap, that will > Kick ASS < on LINUX.
Microsoft dosen't need yet ANOTHER OS.What they would be wise to implement is a scalable, modular approach....a basic slim OS,a Gamer's pack,a Multi-player gamer's pack,a malware pack,an office pack,a finance pack, etc. The customer could buy whatever they want.
A Closer Look at Windows 7's Taskbar
Posted 12/10/2008 at 03:04:29am
I give M$ a lot of credit...they were the OS of choice for the vast majority of computer users.
Now that Computing is mundane,it's split into some very different areas: Gaming,Graphics' design,Email,Surfing, research,Podcasts,Web - based business,on and on.
Now that Microsoft's products are Mature, there are some people who want to go "A Step Further". This will include Programming,Alternative OS use, etc. It's the nature of some folks' to "customize" ,whether it be their home, car,or computer. We've seen Modders,Hacks,Shareware;Freeware;LAN Parties.
An extension of modification is alternative OS' s. Most of us learned computing on Microsoft products, some of us want to continue down the road to discovery. Nobody is wrong, just some of us are different.
