Windows 7 vs Linux: What's the Best OS for Your Netbook?
Posted 07/02/2009 at 06:53:44am
Surprise surprise. :/
Now don't get agry Will....but twitter....so what? It's just another place for kids to run their mouths. What's next, youtube functionality? I can only assume this review of netbook OS's is biased because of max PC's extreme exposure to OS's in general. Most people don't go through 15 OS's a day, so tend to be less "bored" with the one OS that does it all....XP. I'm also getting sick and tired of you dissing XP's search....I can find any file on my comp in 1-3 seconds. Maybe you just have too much crap on your comp...eh?
I'll just put this review down to a bad day...(no coffee) at Maximum PC. I'm still a fan of your mag and website...I try to take the biased reviews with the accurate ones.
Do you realize that you haven't reviewed an AMD motherboard since January? Did the manufacturers stop making them? Do you realize that the AMD phenom II X4 was for sale on Newegg.com three months before you mentioned it on the back cover of the mag.....and STILL had to toss in i7 crap in the whole paragraph where you deigned to even mention the 955. Whats going on at Max PC lately? Where's the beef?
Do you realize that at least 50% of the time, that the "coming next issue info is not accurate"?
It would really be nice for a change if Max PC stopped trying to steer its readers down some preset path and just got back to plain old reporting.
Maybe one day I'll recieve an issue that details all the bad-side of cloud computing as well. Like no privacy, like, the user has absolutley no control over what is done with their data thats stored online. Like the encryption offered by the online storage providers is THEIR encryption and that a 14 year old can crack a password in about 13 seconds with the proper equipment.....ya know....like the equipment that the online storage providers have.
I don't want to sound like a complainer, but since 2003, when i started my subscription....the meat % in the monthly issues has dropped to about 30% of what it used to be. Charge $2 an issue and stay away from the dark side...
No wonder Gordon .....rants :)
Yes I do realize that you, Will, did not pen the article....but you ARE the EIC!

At Long Last, Firefox 3.5 Now Available for Download
Posted 06/30/2009 at 08:58:08pm
.....but NOT this time! FF3.5 is faster than ....Vista thru a tin horn.....on top of that...there we're readily available updates to the addons I use....I am one happy camper with FF 3.5 and I'll beat anyone with an ugly stick who disagrees ;) I have a 20mb/s // 20mb/s connection and EVERYthing is faster.....WAY faster.
I just DL'd Open Office for a simple test and where it used to take 34seconds...its now down to 24 seconds....pages load so fast that I can't keep up, even pages from horribly congested huge websites.
5 Gold Stars to the Mozilla gang....for doing what they said they were going to do, AND doing it perfectly, first go round. It's always nice to see a peice of software, do all it claims,,,,and VERY rare too! Even with 5-10 pages open....still no speed decrease....simply amazing!

Good News, Everyone! Study Finds The Internet Makes You Smarter
Posted 06/13/2009 at 12:31:18am
...a study composed of 24 people is hardly conclusive. I'm surprised to even see it printed here. It prove absolutely nothing and has about as much merit as marijuana studies done a a small group of uneducated Cuban farmers. Obviously internet users will register more brain activity when using the ......internet. A carpenter would use more more brain activity using a hammer compared to a person who never did.
This is just about the most shoddy example of crass sensationalism as I have seen since my last glance at National Enquirer.....please don't stoop to such journalism ever again.

EVGA and Intel to Join Forces
Posted 06/11/2009 at 09:30:10pm
....that this recession can cause mergers like this....well,my GTX280 will be the last EVGA card I buy. nVidia has done more for the graphics/motherboard industry than anyone....ever. If consumers don't speak with their wallets, we're going to lose the best GPU/chipset maker to the server/corporate crowd.....and that indeed will be a sad day.
In actuality Intel is the root of all this evil...they've grown too big for their britches and if we don't stop Intel soon...they are going to be the ONLY company making PC's; and they damn sure won't be affordable.
The economy NEEDS competition....NOT monopolies! By the same token I think that AMD should be forced to give up either the CPU, the chipset, or the Vid card end of their business....preferably the chipset division.
It's time for our govenment to step and put a stop to this, and I REALLY hate to say that.
I guess there is at least one advantage to being "old as dirt".......I won't be here to see the home PC cost more than a car.
You reading this Obama?

Russia Launches Antitrust Probe of Microsoft
Posted 06/07/2009 at 06:01:48pm
Could Microsoft be intentionally limiting Windows XP supply in Russia to help push Vista?
uh....yeah lol......just like they are doing everywhere :/ Even newegg.com only has OEM versions...unless of course you want Vista....then you can get the retail version...what I don't understand is why MS hasn't been locked away in federal prison, since the Vista launch....they broke just about every rule in the book.
