5 Reasons You Shouldn’t Upgrade to the iPhone 3G S

Posted 06/29/2009 at 01:01:05am

Of course the new iPhone is better than the iPhone 3G, but the thing is for most people with an iPhone 3G, it's not really worth the upgrade. Let's talk about the speed. The "S" in the iPhone 3GS stands for speed. Obviously it's faster than the iPhone 3G when it comes to start ups and shutting down, but when you actually use it, it's not that much faster (trust me; I have an iPhone 3G and I compared both devices at the Apple Store). When it comes to graphics, it's also not that much greater. It's still better though. The camera in the new iPhone is only 1 megapixel higher and it also doesn't make much of a difference and it still doesn't give you tools like flash and things like that. Only autofocus, which was pretty useful (I guess). It also comes with video recording, which was probably one of the only things that was worth buying the new 3GS. Video quality wasn't the best, but the 30 FPS recording made it somewhat worth it. Battery life was also better in the 3GS and it's also one of the only good things about 3GS. Besides the couple of functions noted above (maybe I left out one or two things, but they probably weren't too useful), all the other new things can be brought to the 3G by only updating the firmware. As MPC said, most of the things that are new can be obtained through firmware updates. Also, the oleophobic screen isn't that helpful either. It does help reduce fingerprints, but not every single one of them. So basically, the 3GS would be good for people with the first gen iPhone or some people looking forward to own an iPhone. The worst part is that call quality and 3G signals still have not improved, which I find pretty sad from Apple. I'm not trying to say 3GS sucks; it's just that I don't think people want to spend so much money for a new iPhone that really hasn't improved much from the last generation. You can say all you want, but this is just the way I think of it. The interesting thing that keeps coming to my mind though is that maybe Apple didn't spend that much effort on improving on the iPhone 3GS; maybe they just tweaked it and sold it so they would have more time to develop on the new iPhone that is probably coming out next year. I hope they fix the call quality and the 3g signals because that's the main thing that's been bothering me and they should also fix the camera and video recording. I don't want to download a bunch of apps just to tweak a picture I took. And they should keep improving the battery life and speed and also the graphics. They should also change the design. Sounds like a bit too much, but I think Apple will eventually create the perfect iPhone. Oh, and Apple should switch to Verizon because AT&T sucks balls and is basically holding the iPhone's capabilities back.
