Brando Releases Brando-iest Device Ever: Laser Pointer Keyboard
Posted 03/05/2010 at 10:19:00pm
What possible use could someone have for a laser pointer keyboard? It sounds like something out of a MadTV sketch. Beyond that, it actually does look like a decent HTPC keyboard. More than I would pay for one, but what can you do?
Chrome Glitch Nixes Offline Gmail

I think the key point here is "development versions." Aren't development versions of software pretty much assumed to be bug-riddled until proven otherwise?
Study: Windows Users Patch their OS Every 5 Days

One of the problems with studies like this is where they get their information. A person who has installed Secunia's PSI is not a typical Windows user. It's kind of like tracking browser usage by using the stats from a site that gives information about browser usage. You will not get accurate stats because you are not dealing with an average user base.
Microsoft Meets (and Exceeds) Goal of Handing Out 5,000 Pink Slips

How does firing people increase revenue? I can see it increasing profit, but I do not understand how it would increase the total amount of money flowing through the company's hands... (revenue) Am I missing something?
The Dell "Froot" Concept PC Does Away With Keyboards & Monitors
Posted 01/21/2010 at 09:10:30pm
The whole time I was reading the comments just now I was thinking, "hasn't the projected keyboard been around for a while now?" Thanks for the link.
You're right about the concept. You could easily build something comparable today. And I think they picked a perfect name for this thing. It definitely has a "frooty" look to it.
Still, it is somewhat refreshing to see that they can think in more than just rectangles.
Psystar Files Notice of Appeal in a Last Ditch Effort to Legalize Hackintoshes

"Apple's EULA is stupid, for lack of a better word."
Just because it is stupid does not mean that it is not legally binding. As for those saying "you can't read the contract prior to agreeing to it," that is not true. Every EULA for every major piece of commercial software is available online. I don't like these agreements any more than anyone else, but the fact is they exist and they are binding.
T-Mobile Customers Get a $100 Price Break on the Nexus One
Posted 01/19/2010 at 08:07:06am
Not being someone who leaves the "average user area" very often, ATT and Verizon do not really impress me with their maps. T-Mobile would do just as good a job as either one for coverage for me for less than half the price. Problem is, they don't have the phones I want. The Nexus One actually looked intriguing to me until I saw the picture in the article. That sucker is butt-ugly.
Game Consoles to Become Streaming Media Centers

something the author seems to be unaware of. PS3 can handle Netflix through the browser as mentioned below. Netflix also has a disk now that they will send to subscribers which allows users to watch instant play netflix natively on the PS3. Not as good as an "app" on the system itself, but I have heard that they cannot do that because of some kind of exclusivity deal. Once that deal ends, they are planning to release something to allow users to watch without the use of a disk.
EU Orders Mp3, Mobile Phone Makers to Put a Cap on the Volume Dial
Posted 01/02/2010 at 12:51:12pm
Yeah it is kind of a pain, but leveling the audio on your music collection can save you a lot of headaches, both real and figurative.
I would like to say this law is just idiotic. Unfortunately, it is not just idiotic, it is also typical of the EU and member countries. How about you let your people decide for themselves whether the products they are buying are adequate.
