Static Prevention

Posted 10/28/2009 at 06:04:41pm

The only reason to unplug the PSU from the wall outlet is to avoid shock from the outlet. Most PSUs have a master power switch on them you can turn off to avoid that. You'll still be connected to ground with the switch off, assuming your outlets are grounded; just because it has 3 prong socket dosen't mean it's acctually grounded.  So as you touch the chassis as you're working on it, you'll ground your self often enough to never really build up a static charge to cause any damage.

Also, Dexter243, please PLEASE use spell check when you post next time.  My brain hurts trying to read typoed posts. No one can take you seriously if you keep writing posts like that; espeically when you're calling people FOOLS at the same time. And why do you start nearly every post with "Nutcracklng snack?" Are you mental?

5 Free Utilities that Should be Included in Windows

Hmm must be a 32bit only type application, and probably isn't aware of 64bit apps.  But 64bit drivers are less prone to vulirabilites as it's 32bit older brother.  I just DLed 7.zip and that installs a 64bit version of the app, so I'm quite impressed.

I'd add VLC to that list as well for being able to view ANY video and auido format/codec under the sun, with out having to deal with codecs. If you can't play it though VLC, it's not worth watching.

How-TosSlight problem with imaged backups on
Windows 7 Upgrade Guide for RC (Release Candidate) Users

Posted 10/26/2009 at 09:38:08pm

Using an imaged backup is only useful if you're using the exact same hardware, as you had when you first got Win7. Honestly I don't go around reinstalling Windows that often, maybe once every six months to a year. In that time your PC would have evolved, been upgraded, added new hardware, etc. In fact if you upgraded/changed your motherboard, or built a new PC you don't WANT to use that old imaged version of win7.

It will be a huge headache since you'll get driver errors since your hardware has changed. Drivers will be outdated by then. and service packs would likely have been released already making it more troublesome than if you just followed these simple workarounds, with a CLEAN install, allowing you to install new drivers and aps normally rather than dealing with constant error popups and system instablitly and slowness because you used an old image backup.

Also, if you installed Win7 Retail with your old windows install already on your hard drive, be sure to DELETE the "windows.old" folder, which is a backed up copy of your old OS before you installed windows 7.  It's probably taking up about 100GB, and likely ended up in your imaged backup just wasting space.

Cooler Master HAF 922

does it really matter if the inside of the case is painted?  you're not going to be looking inside of it all that much.  The side pannel that has the open grating isn't much bigger to see anything more than your mobo.  So any inside paint job will be covered over by your mobo anyway.

The only thing I can see good about a painted intieror would be that the sharp edges would be covered up with paint.  But a case nearing $100 would have all the edges folded over so there are no sharp edges.  That's good if you're constantly replacing parts inside, but most of us don't reopen our PCs for anotehr 6 months to a year.

Intel Core i5 and New Core i7 Chips Spotted in Retail Channels

Posted 08/17/2009 at 01:02:44pm

ok so wait a minute.  i5 is a NEW intel CPU but it's slower than the existing i7's, or is it just a rebranding of an existing CPU line, like Core Duos being named i3?   What about i6?   What about Quad Core Duos?

Someone has a list where it breaks it all down?  now i gotta learn this crap all over again.  maybe also include a AMD CPU list to compare by, and also see what AMD has they consider competes/performs the same with an intel chip model.

So a list that has:

CPU name, model number, L1/L2/L3 sizes, Frequences, and socket type, and supported chipsets.
e.g(i7, i5)       (750, 860)     (2m/4m/8m)      (2.8ghz)      (775, 1156)           (P55,P45)

next to that AMD's compareable chip.

Id' also love to see a simular list for small cpus, like ARM cpus, intel's Atom, and nvidias new cpu (forget it's name)

that's all fine and dandy but it since since 3.5 none of my plugins work anymore.  Maybe they ought to fix that so I can at least get add-blocker working again, eh?  Might as well go back an older version of FF.
