Hard Case: Signs of Life at AMD?

Posted 11/17/2009 at 02:32:26pm

Lets not forget that nVidia is also about to introduce thier own CPU to compete with Intel. While I don't think either nVidia nor Intel plan on making a single-chip CPU/GPU as yet.  But if AMD does pull this out of thier ass, and it's sucsessful, be rest assured that Intel and Nvida will copy-cat that idea.  But I never really though this was a really "new" idea anyway, hasn't this been done already with portible devices and game consoles?

Personally I don't like ATI cards, they might be the fastest right now, but so what? In the past I've had issues using ATI with akward drivers and issues running other OS (besides windows) with it. ATI powers the grapgics on my Xbox 360, and it has a very slow rendering when you enter a new area and it takes a moment for the textures start out dull and fuzzy untill they properly render.  It feels like it has to download textures off the internet because it's so slow in this reguard.

Survey: IT Admins Split on Server vs Cloud Computing

Posted 11/16/2009 at 08:39:35am

I didn't read the article, but just from the title it self seems completely redundant to me.  It's not like servers don't exist in the cloud, the cloud ARE SERVERS.  The only difference is the servers are remote, accessed over the internet where someone else is left with the responsibility of keeping them running and updated and so forth.

But if you're talking about company documents that aren't intended to be publicly viewered, and coperate espeionage, it's logical to conclude a company shouldn't use this sort of thing.  And to that end thier own servers shouldn't be connected to the internet for that very save reason.  Who needs a firewall when you can be 100% secrure and unplug your network from the ISP.

I mean why are top secret government documents even online in the first place, for just someone to hack in a screw with.

20 Essential Tweaks and Tips Every Firefox User Should Know

Another awesome Firefox Trick is using PIPES between URLs for your home pages.  So go into Tools - Options, and under home page type:

   http://maximumpc.com|http://www.twitter.com|http://www.google.com

Note the PIPES (vertical line) between each url.  So when you open FireFox, or click the HOME button, those three URLs will open in their own tab!

Borderlands DLC Coming to Consoles November 24, PC “Later”

Posted 11/10/2009 at 02:12:54am

Yeah it's obvious to anyone it's concerns over piracy as well as hacking/cheats which is almost non-existant on the consoles. Thing is that I tend to think pirating PC games will encourage the sale of the same titles for the consoles, if the game is any good (like Fallout 3, Borderlands, etc).  Since there are no achevements/Trophies to be had on PC versions of the game (there was on windows, but I don't see achevemnts anymore on them.. just Gears of War for the Pc had it, which linked directly to your Xbox Live gamertag and score.)

Static Prevention

The only reason to unplug the PSU from the wall outlet is to avoid shock from the outlet. Most PSUs have a master power switch on them you can turn off to avoid that. You'll still be connected to ground with the switch off, assuming your outlets are grounded; just because it has 3 prong socket dosen't mean it's acctually grounded.  So as you touch the chassis as you're working on it, you'll ground your self often enough to never really build up a static charge to cause any damage.

Also, Dexter243, please PLEASE use spell check when you post next time.  My brain hurts trying to read typoed posts. No one can take you seriously if you keep writing posts like that; espeically when you're calling people FOOLS at the same time. And why do you start nearly every post with "Nutcracklng snack?" Are you mental?

Hmm must be a 32bit only type application, and probably isn't aware of 64bit apps.  But 64bit drivers are less prone to vulirabilites as it's 32bit older brother.  I just DLed 7.zip and that installs a 64bit version of the app, so I'm quite impressed.

I'd add VLC to that list as well for being able to view ANY video and auido format/codec under the sun, with out having to deal with codecs. If you can't play it though VLC, it's not worth watching.

How-TosSlight problem with imaged backups on
Windows 7 Upgrade Guide for RC (Release Candidate) Users

Posted 10/26/2009 at 09:38:08pm

Using an imaged backup is only useful if you're using the exact same hardware, as you had when you first got Win7. Honestly I don't go around reinstalling Windows that often, maybe once every six months to a year. In that time your PC would have evolved, been upgraded, added new hardware, etc. In fact if you upgraded/changed your motherboard, or built a new PC you don't WANT to use that old imaged version of win7.

It will be a huge headache since you'll get driver errors since your hardware has changed. Drivers will be outdated by then. and service packs would likely have been released already making it more troublesome than if you just followed these simple workarounds, with a CLEAN install, allowing you to install new drivers and aps normally rather than dealing with constant error popups and system instablitly and slowness because you used an old image backup.

Also, if you installed Win7 Retail with your old windows install already on your hard drive, be sure to DELETE the "windows.old" folder, which is a backed up copy of your old OS before you installed windows 7.  It's probably taking up about 100GB, and likely ended up in your imaged backup just wasting space.
